DENVER - Idaho's Ben Ayesu-Attah and UT Arlington's Roman Martin were named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 21-27.
Ayesu-Attah, a sophomore from Coquitlam, British Columbia (Heritage Woods Secondary), scored an individual win and a meet record on Saturday at the Cougar Indoor. He posted the nation's 36th-fastest time in the 400 meters with a meet-record race of 47.53. His time is the fastest in the WAC this season and is the only WAC runner with multiple sub-48 times in the 400m so far this season. Ayesu-Attah finished the meet as the anchor leg of Idaho's second-place 4x400m relay, which posted a time of 3:15.84, which is second-fastest in the WAC so far this season and 83rd nationally.
Martin, a senior from Le Mans, France (EGC), placed first in the heptathlon at Iowa State's Bill Bergan Multi-Event, totaling 5,756 points to finish more than 300 points better than the event's runner up. His 5,756 points are the third most scored by an NCAA participant this season and is the best score in the WAC by more than 800 points. Martin won four of the seven events: the 60m (7.15), shot put (14.54m), 60m hurdles (8.18) and pole vault (4.80m), competing against Iowa State, Iowa, Kansas State, Marquette, Minnesota, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Wisconsin.
Other track nominees included: Seattle U redshirt senior Matthew McClemet, Texas State freshman Tyrone Jackson, UTA sophomore Emil Blomberg, and Utah State junior Silas Pimental.
