DENVER - New Mexico State's Brianna Cromartie and Texas State's Danessa Lyssy were named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 21-27.
Cromartie, a junior from Rochester, NY (Aquinas Institute), set a new school record in the 200m when she ran a time of 24.29 to place second overall in the event. Cromartie's time in the 200m is currently the top mark in the conference for the event. Cromartie also helped her 4x400m team set another all-time school record when the team finished second overall with a time of 3:45.97. This time also sits atop the charts in the conference for the event. Cromartie also placed second overall in the 400m with a time of 55.18 to sit at second all-time in the NM State record books. This time is also tops in the conference for the event.
Lyssy, a senior from Floresville, Texas (Floresville High School), set a school record and posted the top collegiate point total in the women's pentathlon with 3,688 points at Houston's Howie Ryan Invitational. Her point total bettered her career best by 135 points and is the best score in the WAC this season. She posted the top scores in the high jump and shot put after clearing 1.69 meters (5-06.50) and posting a mark of 12.69 meters (41-07.75).
