Utah State 75, Seattle U 66


LOGAN, Utah - (USU Media Relations) Senior forward Kyisean Reed had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead Utah State men's basketball to a 75-66 Western Athletic Conference win against Seattle Thursday night inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Utah State improves to 12-1 on the season for just the third time in school history and 3-0 in WAC play with the win. Overall, USU’s current 11-game winning streak is the seventh-longest under veteran head coach Stew Morrill and tied for the ninth-longest in school history along with the 1966-67 and 1970-71 teams. USU also improved to 8-1 at home this year and is now 218-19 at home in 15 years under Morrill. In WAC play, Utah State has now won 40 of its last 46 games.

Seattle, who falls to 5-7 on the year and 0-2 in WAC play with the loss, was led by Deshaun Sunderhaus who had 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Denver 64, Texas State 53


DENVER -(DU Media Relations)  University of Denver junior forward Chris Udofia (Irving, Texas) scored 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the floor, leading the Pioneers to a 64-53 victory over Texas State 64-53 Thursday evening at Magness Arena.

The Pioneers (6-7, 2-1 WAC) shot 54.8 percent (23-for-42) from the field and went 9-for-10 (50.0 percent) from three-point range, while holding the Bobcats (4-11, 0-3 WAC) to just 38.6 percent (17-of-44) from the floor and 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Brett Olson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) who finished with 13 points and a career-high six assists, and senior Chase Hallam (Mesquite, Texas) tallied 11 points and a six rebounds.

New Mexico State 82, UTSA 62


LAS CRUC ES, N.M. (NMSU Media Relations)-With a strong second-half start, the New Mexico State men's basketball team defeated UTSA, 82-62. The Aggies (7-8, 1-2 WAC) broke the school record for team field goal percentage, which stood for 39 years.

NM State shot 68.6 percent from the field (35-of-51) and broke the previous record of 66.2 percent from Jan. 19, 1974. The Aggies were also one shy of tying the school record for blocked shots with 11 against the Roadrunners (4-9, 0-3).

Senior forward Bandja Sy scored a career-high 25 points on 9-of-12 shooting. He also had eight rebounds, three blocks and two assists. Freshman center Sim Bhullar added 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting along with three blocked shots. He helped the Aggies to a 30-point advantage in points in the paint, 48-18.

Idaho 64, San Jose State 55


SAN JOSE, Calif. –(UI Media Relations) Both teams got out to a sluggish start, but only Idaho men’s basketball broke free in a 64-55 Western Athletic Conference win at San Jose State on Thursday at The Event Center.

In the first seven minutes of the game, Idaho (6-6, 2-0 WAC) and San Jose State (7-6, 2-1 WAC) combined to shoot just 24.1 percent from the floor (7-of-29). Idaho recovered from the slow start early on and finished with a 25-of-50 (.500) shooting performance, but the Spartans never got into rhythm and finished just 20-of-71 (.282) overall and 3-of-20 (.150) from 3-point range.

“You’ve got to give our assistant coaches a congratulatory note and pat on the back there,” Idaho head coach Don Verlin said after the game. “They did a great job with the game plan and our guys went out and did a really nice job of going out there and executing.”

After starting the game shooting 5-of-15 from the floor, the Vandal men made nine of their final 13 shots to end the half with a 33-30 lead. San Jose State went just 12-of-41 (.293) from the floor in the first half, but got back 10 points from their 13 offensive rebounds during the period.
