Seattle U 72, San Jose State 60
Seattle U defeated San Jose State 72-60 Saturday to remain the only unbeaten team in WAC play. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 6-6 on the season and 3-0 in WAC play. The Spartans fall to 4-11 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Seattle U shot 40 percent from the floor, 19 percent from three-point range and 54 percent from the free throw line in the win. SJSU connected on 36 percent from the field, 19 percent from downtown and 57 percent from the charity stripe. The Redhawks out-rebounded the Spartans 51-45 and forced 26 SJSU turnovers.
Kacie Sowell led the Redhawks with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Ward added 14 points and Brenda Adhiambo had 13.
SJSU was led by Ta'Rea Cunnigan with 23 points and nine rebounds. Riana Byrd posted a double-double of 15 points and 12 boards.
New Mexico State 61, Texas State 58
New Mexico State collected its third straight WAC win with a 61-58 win over Texas State Saturday at Strahan Coliseum. With the win, the Aggies move to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the WAC. The Bobcats drop to 6-8 on the season and 0-4 in league play.
NM State shot 35 percent from the field, 29 percent from three-point range and 70 percent from the free throw line. Texas State connected on 30 percent from the floor, 32 percent from beyond the arc and 69 percent from the free throw line in the loss. The Aggies won the rebounding battle, 51-45.
Stefanie Gilbreath led all players with 21 points, while Kelsie Rozendaal and Sasha Weber each posted double-doubles. Rozendaal posted 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Weber had her first career double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
Ashley Ezeh paced Texas State with 15 points.
Denver 75, UTSA 73
Denver held on for a 75-73 road win over UTSA Saturday. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in WAC play. The Roadrunners drop to 7-8 on the season and 1-3 in the WAC.
DU shot 47 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range and 77 percent from the free throw line on the game. UTSA connected on 43 percent from the field, 27 percent from downtown and 71 percent from the charity stripe in the loss. Denver edged the Roadrunners on the boards, 35-34.
Morgan Van Riper-Rose led all players with 22 points, while Jordan Johnston added 14 points. Alison Janecek posted a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Kamra King posted a season-high 18 points, while Miki Turner and Lyndi Thorman scored 12 each for UTSA.
Utah State 91, Idaho 85
Recovering from a pair of double-digit deficits, Utah State fought to a 91-85 win over Idaho at the Cowan Spectrum in Moscow Saturday. With the win, the Aggies improve to 6-9 overall and 3-1 in WAC action. Idaho falls to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Utah State shot 48 percent from the field, 50 percent from long range and 76 percent from the free throw line on the game. Idaho connected on 41 percent from the floor, 39 percent from beyond the arc with a school record 15 three-pointers and 67 percent from the charity stripe.
Four different Aggies scored in double figures led by Devyn Christensen with 25 points. Makenlee Williams had a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds. Jenna Johnson had her third-straight double-double with 19 points and 10 boards, while Jennifer Schlott had 11 points.
Stacey Barr made six three-pointers and finished with 23 points, while Christina Salvatore had 18 points, all from three-pointers. Connie Ballestero posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Louisiana Tech 65, UT Arlington 58
Louisiana Tech held off a UT Arlington rally for a 65-58 win at the Thomas Assembly Center Saturday. With the victory, the Lady Techsters move to 6-7 overall and 2-1 in the WAC. The Mavericks fall to 3-10 on the season and 1-2 in WAC play.
LA Tech shot 39 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and just 47 percent from the free throw line on the game. UTA connected on 43 percent from the floor, 30 percent from beyond the arc and 65 percent from the charity stripe. The Lady Techsters won the rebounding battle, 38-36 and forced 20 Maverick turnovers.
Kelia Shelton posted a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. Whitney Frazier added 11 points and Kanedria Andrews had 10.
Kiara Parker led UTA with 14 points, while Desherra Nwanguma added 10.
