The Aggies remained the only unbeaten team in WAC play with a sweep of Kansas City (25-21, 25-22, 25-17) at the Swinney Recreation Center Saturday. With the win, New Mexico State improves to 11-8 overall and 6-0 in the WAC. The Kangaroos fall to 10-8 on the season and 4-2 in WAC play with the loss.
NM State out hit the ‘Roos .279 to .143 and out blocked Kansas City 13-8. The Aggies also had more kills (45-34), assists (43-34) and digs (45-38) than the 'Roos.
Desiree Scott led the Aggies with 15 kills on 22 attempts and just one attack error for a match-high .636 hitting percentage. She also added seven blocks.
Chloe Jarema led Kansas City with 11 kills, while Taryn Miller had 10 digs.
Utah Valley 3, Grand Canyon 0
The Wolverines swept past the Antelopes (25-12, 25-14, 25-22) in WAC action Saturday at Grand Canyon Arena. With the win, Utah Valley improves to 11-10 on the season and 5-2 in the WAC. Grand Canyon drops to 7-10 overall and 1-4 in WAC play with the loss.
The Wolverines out-hit the Antelopes .212 to .024 and out-blocked Grand Canyon 10-1. Utah Valley also had more kills (35-32), assists (35-31) and service aces (4-2), but the Antelopes had more digs (58-56).
Lauren Stringham led Utah Valley with nine kills, while Brookelyn Hall finished with 29 assists and eight digs. McKenna Tait had a match-high 21 digs.
Sara Dugan paced Grand Canyon with nine kills and 11 digs.
Texas-Pan American 3, Chicago State 2
The Broncs defeated the Cougars in five sets (24-26, 26-24, 25-17, 19-25, 15-12) to pick up their first WAC victory of the season Saturday at the Jacoby Dickens Center. With the win, Texas-Pan American improves to 11-11 on the season and 1-5 in the WAC. Chicago State drops to 2-18 overall and 0-6 in WAC play with the loss.
UTPA hit .250 on the match, compared to the .191 of the Cougars. Both teams had 62 kills and 57 assists, but the Broncs out-blocked Chicago State 12-9.
Maria Kliefoth was one of four Broncs in double-figure kills with a team-high 15 on .387 hitting to go with five blocks. Haley Durham added 13 kills and five blocks, while Alisha Watson recorded her second-straight double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. Krysta Freitas finished with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Nycole Masaki recorded a double-double of a match-high 54 assists and 10 digs.
Paula Sioto led the Cougars with a match-high 26 kills. Mackenzie Lotter had 50 assists, while Julia Menhart and Valeria Desiderio each recorded a team-high 20 digs.
