WAC Coaches Select Seattle U, Sowell as Preseason Favorites 10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM DENVER – Seattle U is the preseason favorite to win the Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball title, while Redhawk senior Kacie Sowell was selected as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year in a vote of the league’s nine head coaches, who could not vote for their own team or players.The Redhawks received 62 points and six first-place votes to beat out Idaho for the top spot. The Vandals captured second place with 59 points and the other three first-place votes. New Mexico State came in third with 47 points, while Kansas City finished fourth with 36 points. Bakersfield came in fifth place with 32 points, just ahead of Utah Valley in sixth with 30 points. Texas-Pan American (25), Grand Canyon (23) and Chicago State (10) round out the poll.Sowell, the reigning WAC Player of the Year, leads the list of Preseason All-WAC honorees.
