WAC Women's Basketball Preseason Media Poll, All-WAC Team Announced

DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball media have selected Seattle U as the preseason favorite to win the conference crown during the 2013-14 season, and Redhawk senior forward Kacie Sowell has been selected as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year.

The Redhawks received 11 first-place votes, earning 115 points. Idaho was picked to finish second with 100 points and one first-place votes, while New Mexico State was third with 80 points. Utah Valley was picked to finish fourth with 75 points, followed by Bakersfield with 66 points. Kansas City was picked to finish in sixth place with 53 points, followed by Texas-Pan American in seventh with 40 points and Grand Canyon in eighth with 38 points and the other first-place vote. Chicago State rounds out the poll with 18 points.

Reigning WAC Player of the Year and first team All-WAC honoree Sowell was voted Preseason Player of the Year and is the on the preseason All-WAC first team. Joining her on the first team are teammate Sylvia Shephard, Alyssa Charlston of Idaho, Grand Canyon’s Judy Jones and Eilise O’Connor of Kansas City.

The Preseason All-WAC second team is comprised of Bakersfield’s Janae Coffee and Tyonna Outland, Sasha Weber of New Mexico State, Idaho’s Stacey Barr and Tina Doughty of Utah Valley.
