DENVER — North Dakota’s Austin Smith and Rick Eberle have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.
Smith, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo. (Rampart HS), won all three individual events he competed in during a meet against South Dakota State and St. Cloud State. Smith opened the meet with a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 56.68. He then took the 200 breast in 2:07.72 and capped off the meet with a time of 1:58.91 to win the 200 individual medley. His performance helped North Dakota to wins over both opponents.
Eberle, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo. (Colorado State), won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in the double-dual meet. Eberle opened with a score of 300.55 on the 1-meter board to win by nearly 25 points. He then scored 328.05 points on the 3-meter, outdistancing the second place competitor by almost 25 more points. North Dakota beat South Dakota State, 192-106, and defeated St. Cloud State, 169-129.
