Giovanni Godoy's (Fr., Watsonville, Calif., Watsonville HS) goal with 3:54 remaining in the second half gave Bakersfield head coach Simon Tobin his 300th career victory as the Roadrunners defeated San José State 1-0 Friday night.

Bakersfield controlled the first half, outshooting the Spartans 11-4, but it was San José State who held the pace in the closing frame, holding the 'Runners to two shots up to Godoy's strike. Jonathan Colunga (Fr., Lindsay, Calif., Lindsay HS), a late Bakersfield sub, sent a long ball to Godoy, who beat Spartans' keeper Emmanuel Espinosa from 10 yards.

Miguel Gonzalez (Yelm, Wash.) earned his third multiple-goal match of the season, and the Seattle University defense held off the UNLV attack as the Redhawks defeated the Rebels, 2-0, Friday night in Western Athletic Conference men’s soccer action at Peter Johann Field.

The two teams alternated scoring chances early in the first half, with UNLV taking three shots in the first 27 minutes of the half and Seattle U taking two shots. The Redhawks nearly took the lead in the 30th minute, but Justice Duerksen’s (San Clemente, Calif.) shot hit the post, and Jonathan Massimino’s (San Ramon, Calif.) attempt a minute later sailed high.

Junior forward Tato Chiaparro had a goal and an assist in leading Kansas City men's soccer to a 2-1 win over Air Force on Friday night at Durwood Stadium in WAC action.

The ‘Roos (3-5-4, 2-1-1 WAC) controlled the first half with a 9-5 shot advantage and several scoring opportunities, and it got the game’s opening goal in the 21st minute. Senior Guerrero Pino took the ball and went on a 30 yard dribbling run into the box toward the left goal post, but was forced to turn it square outside for Chiaparro, who sliced inside the box and hit a right-footed shot from 16 yards out that curved around the goalkeeper and into the top right corner.

The Grand Canyon University men's soccer team (2-7-1, 1-2-0) brought down Houston Baptist University (7-2-0, 2-2-0) with a decisive 3-0 shutout at Sorrels Field for the first Western Athletic Conference win in the program's history. It was the first shutout of the season for GCU.

"This was a huge win," said head coach Petar Draksin. "We've been so close so many times. We just have to build on this now and move on for the rest of the season. We have to continue to battle. It's a huge win for the program. Houston Baptist is a very, very good team."
