DENVER — Grand Canyon’s Illya Glazunov and North Dakota’s Rick Eberle have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for October 14-20.
Glazunov, a sophomore from Donetsk, Ukraine (MP Dragomanov National Pedagogic University), won both the 50-yard freestyle and 100 free in a double dual meet against conference foes Seattle U and Bakersfield. His time in the 50 free (20.74) is the best in the WAC on the season. Glazunov led off the 400 free relay with a season WAC-best time of 45.25 for his 100 free leg of the race. The ‘Lopes won the relay in a time of 3:03.87. He was also the anchor on the winning 200 medley relay, setting a WAC best mark on the season (1:31.85). Grand Canyon defeated Seattle U, 183-79, and Bakersfield, 156-132.
Eberle, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo. (Colorado State), won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in a dual meet at South Dakota on Friday. Eberle scored 291.80 on the 1-meter and 294.55 on the 3-meter to help North Dakota to a 172-125 win over South Dakota. He is undefeated in the early season, winning all four events in which he has competed.
Other swimmers nominated: Air Force junior Ryan Dunne; Bakersfield junior Mitchell Huxhold; North Dakota senior Adam Gannon; and Seattle U junior Bart Wanot.
Other divers nominated: Air Force sophomore Dominic Vallejo; and Bakersfield freshman Justin Angelo.
