DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference announced its men's and women's cross country pre-championship coaches' polls, as voted on by the nine head coaches in the league. Utah Valley was selected as the favorite to win the men's championship, while Idaho was picked to win the women's title.

On the men’s side, Utah Valley, in its first year in the WAC, has been regionally-ranked in every USTFCCCA poll this year and were picked as the favorite to win the conference championship.  The Wolverines received six first-place votes and 48 points. Idaho captured second place with 42 points and one first-place vote. Seattle U claimed the third spot with 37 points, garnering one first-place vote. With 27 points, New Mexico State was voted fourth. Kansas City placed fifth, just two points behind the Aggies, receiving 25 total points. The rest of the men's picture rounds out with Texas-Pan American sixth (22), Grand Canyon seventh (16) and Chicago State eighth (7).

Idaho, three-time defending WAC women's champions, were selected first with seven first-place votes and 63 overall points. Seattle U followed in second with a first-place vote for 54 points. With 50 points, Utah Valley was picked to finish third. New Mexico State received one first-place vote and 41 points to capture the fourth spot. narrowly edging out fifth-ranked Kansas City by a point. Grand Canyon was selected sixth, totaling 28 points, followed by Texas-Pan American in seventh with 21 points. Closing out the coaches votes were Bakersfield in eighth with 19 points and Chicago State in ninth with 8 points.

The 2013 Western Athletic Conference cross country championships will take place in Seattle, Wash., on Saturday, Nov. 2.
