DENVER — UNLV’s Giacomo Gremizzi and Wyoming’s Derek Campbell have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for October 21-27.
Gremizzi, a senior from Luisago, Italy (Liceo Scientifico), won a total of four individual events as the Rebels split a pair of meets at Arizona and Arizona State. He opened the season winning the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:50.18. At Arizona State the next day, he won the 200 free (1:38.90), the 200 breaststroke (2:02.41) and the 400 IM in a NCAA ‘B’ time of 3:53.99. All of the times against the Sun Devils are ranked number one in the WAC this season.
Campbell, a senior from Laramie, Wyo. (Laramie HS), won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events in a dual meet at home against Colorado School of Mines. Campbell scored 294.20 on the 1-meter and 300.75 on the 3-meter to help the Cowboys to a 162-114 win. Both scores are ranked the third best in the WAC this season.
