NEW MEXICO STATE’S SCOTT NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
New Mexico State senior middle hitter Desiree Scott has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6. This is her first-ever WAC Player of the Week honor.

The Tucson, Ariz., native led the Aggies to a 3-0 record last week to remain the only unbeaten team in WAC play, averaging 3.20 kills on a WAC-best .538 hitting to go along with 1.60 blocks and 0.50 digs per set. Scott opened the week with eight kills on 13 attempts with no errors for a .615 hitting percentage and added four blocks, three digs and a service ace in a sweep of Bakersfield. She then scored 22 points in a sweep of Idaho, posting season highs in kills (16) and hitting percentage (.727) to go along with seven blocks. Scott wrapped up the week with eight kills, five blocks and two digs in a four-set win over Seattle U. In WAC matches, she now leads the league in hitting percentage (.479), blocks (1.79) and points (4.25) per set.

Other nominees included: Bakersfield’s Kelsee Sawyer averaged 4.42 kills and 4.67 points per set as the Roadrunners went 1-2 on the week ... Lanie Muys of Grand Canyon averaged 2.86 kills, 1.43 digs and 0.43 service aces per set as the Antelopes went 0-2 on the week ... Kansas City’s Chloe Jarema averaged 2.90 kills, 1.00 digs and 1.00 blocks as the Kangaroos went 1-1 on the week Lani Beadle of Seattle U averaged 5.33 digs per set as the Redhawks went 2-1 on the week ... Texas-Pan American’s Kasey Sanchez averaged 2.50 kills and 2.20 digs per set last week ... Kalani Norris of Utah Valley averaged 3.82 kills and 2.27 digs per set as the Wolverines went 3-0 on the week.

WAC STAT LEADERS
Bakersfield leads the WAC in assists (13.36) and kills (13.93), while New Mexico State is tops in opponent hitting percentage (.151) and Grand Canyon  leads the league in digs (17.15). Meanwhile, Idaho is tops in hitting percentage (.241), Kansas City leads the league in blocks (2.98) and Texas-Pan American is tops in service aces (1.60).
 
Individually, Bakersfield’s Debora Araujo leads the WAC in kills (3.66) and points (4.06), while Utah Valley’s McKenna Tait is tops in service aces (0.47). Idaho’s Alyssa Schultz leads the WAC in hitting percentage (.389) and teammate Meredith Coba leads the league in assists (10.15). Kansas City’s Emma Hagedorn leads the WAC in blocks (1.38), while Grand Canyon’s Mackenzie Phelps is tops in digs (5.66).

In WAC matches only, New Mexico State leads the WAC in hitting percentage (.245), opponent hitting percentage (.064) and blocks (3.64). Grand Canyon is tops in assists (12.47), kills (13.24) and digs (17.76), while Bakersfield leads the league in service aces (1.30).

Individually in WAC matches, New Mexico State’s Desiree Scott leads the WAC in hitting percentage (.479), blocks (1.79) and points (4.25). Grand Canyon’s Kaitlynn Ausmus leads the WAC in kills (3.59), while teammate Phelps is tops in digs (5.47). Bakersfield’s Fernanda Gonçalves is tops in assists (10.35), while Utah Valley’s McKenna Tait leads the league in service aces (0.71).

GCU’S PHELPS BREAKS WAC RECORD FOR DIGS IN A MATCH
In a heartbreaking five-set loss to Central Connecticut State on Sept. 13, Grand Canyon junior libero Mackenzie Phelps set a Grand Canyon and WAC single-match record with 52 digs. Phelps broke the previous record of 47 set by Jessie Shull of San Jose State during the 2006 season.

WAC TOURNAMENT TICKETS ON SALE NOW
Tickets for the 2013 WAC Volleyball Tournament, which will be held Nov. 25-27 at Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Ariz., are on sale now. All-session tickets, which are general admission seating and gets you admission all five matches, are $23. Tickets can be purchased at www.gcuarena.com.

Single session tickets go on sale Monday, Nov. 25, at the arena box office.

2013 WAC TOURNAMENT
The 2013 WAC Volleyball Tournament will be held Nov. 25-27 at Grand Canyon Arena on the campus of Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Ariz., and will include the top six eligible teams in the regular-season standings.

TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES
BAKERSFIELD ROADRUNNERS (9-9, 2-3 WAC)
The Roadruuners fell at New Mexico State (15-25, 17-25, 19-25) last Monday, then defeated Chicago State (25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20) on Thursday before dropping a heartbreaker to Kansas City (19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17, 16-18) on Saturday ... Kelsee Sawyer recorded her second and third career double-doubles in matches against Chicago State (17 kills, 10 digs) and Kansas City (25 kills, 11 digs) ... Sawyer’s 80 attack attempts against the ‘Roos is a school record for most attempts in a five-set match ... Mariah Alvidrez posted a career-high 34 digs, Fernanda Gonçalves recorded a career-high 64 assists, and Debora Araujo had her eighth double-double of the year with 17 kills and a career-high 26 digs in the Kansas City match ... Molly O’Hagan set the Bakersfield Division I record for block assists in a five-set match with nine against the Kangaroos ... The Roadrunners host Utah Valley on Thursday and play a non-conference match against San Jose State on Sunday.

CHICAGO STATE COUGARS (2-16, 0-4 WAC)
The Cougars fell in four sets at Bakersfield (20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25) last Thursday and were swept at Utah Valley (13-25, 14-25, 24-26) on Saturday ... Against the Roadrunners, Rachel Levitt and Paula Sioto led the Cougars with 12 kills apiece ... Valeria Desiderio posted a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs against Bakersfield ... Against the Wolverines, Sioto led the team with nine kills, while Mackenzie Lotter finished with 22 assists ... Sioto, who ranks second in the WAC in kills (3.48) and third in points (3.87), has recorded double-digit kills in eighth of the Cougars’ last 10 matches ... As a team, Chicago State ranks fourth in the league in service aces (1.26) ... Lotter ranks fifth in the WAC in assists per set (8.98) ... Julia Menhart ranks second in the WAC in service aces per set (0.39), while teammate Mia Townsell is fifth (0.33) ... Chicago State hosts New Mexico State on Thursday and Texas-Pan American on Saturday.

GRAND CANYON ANTELOPES (7-8, 1-3 WAC)
The Antelopes fell at Idaho (24-26, 18-25, 23-25) last Monday and at home to Seattle U (25-22, 21-25, 20-25, 19-25) on Wednesday ... Against the Vandals, Kaitlyn Ausmus was just shy of a double-double, finishing with a match-high 16 kills and nine digs ... Against Seattle U, Shannon Dugan and Lanie Muys finished with 11 kills each, while Mackenzie Phelps had 20 digs ... Head coach Kris Naber is one win shy of 300 for her career ... As a team, the Antelopes lead the WAC in digs (17.15), rank second in opponent hitting percentage (.176), third in kills (12.39) and fourth in assists (11.66)  ... The WAC’s active leader in career digs, Phelps has 1,573 on her career and is 157 shy of the program record ... Phelps leads the conference in digs (5.66) ... Ausmus ranks fifth in the WAC in kills (3.02), while Jessica Posse is seventh in assists (5.76) ... The Antelopes play at Boise State on Monday, then host Utah Valley on Saturday.

IDAHO VANDALS  (10-7, 3-2 WAC)
The Vandals swept Grand Canyon (26-24, 25-18, 25-23) last Monday, swept Texas-Pan American (25-20, 25-23, 25-23) on Thursday and fell in straight sets (15-25, 18-25, 19-25) at New Mexico State on Saturday ... Against GCU, Jessica Hastriter led Idaho with 15 kills, while Meredith Coba dished out 38 assists and Jenna Ellis had 13 digs ... In the win over UTPA, Hastriter had 10 kills, while Coba dished out 32 assists and Ellis had a match-high 21 digs ... In the loss to the Aggies, Coba posted a double-double of 15 assists and 10 digs ... Alyssa Schultz leads the WAC in hitting percentage (.389), ranks third in blocks (1.18) and seventh in points (3.42) ... Coba leads the league in assists (10.15), while Ellis is fourth in digs (3.91) ... Hastriter ranks fourth in the WAC in kills (3.22), sixth in points (3.42) and ninth in hitting percentage (.256) ... The Vandals lead the WAC in hitting percentage (.241) and rank second in kills (12.80) ... Idaho plays at Seattle U on Friday in its only match this week.

KANSAS CITY KANGAROOS (9-7, 3-1 WAC)
The ‘Roos fell in five sets at Utah Valley (25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 7-15) last Thursday, then defeated Bakersfield in five sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 17-25, 18-16) on Saturday ... Against UVU, Jessica Hendin led the ‘Roos with 15 kills, while Sydney Crimmins added 14 kills and eight blocks ... Melissa Hartsel posted 10 blocks, while Taryn Miller had 19 digs ... Chloe Jarema had a career-high 19 kills, while Hendin posted a double-double of 13 kills and 15 digs and Miller had a match-high 35 digs against Bakersfield ... The ‘Roos rank third in the nation in blocks (2.98) and 25th in digs (16.58) ... Emma Hagedorn leads the WAC and ranks 18th nationally in blocks (1.38), while Miller is third in the WAC and 25th nationally in digs (5.09) ... Crimmins ranks fifth in the WAC in blocks (1.14), while Hartsel is sixth (1.12) ... Kansas City leads the WAC in blocks (2.98), ranks second in both assists (11.77) and digs (16.58), third in opponent hitting percentage (.180) and fourth in kills (12.34) ... The ‘Roos host Texas-Pan American on Thursday and New Mexico State on Saturday.

NEW MEXICO STATE AGGIES (9-8, 4-0 WAC)
The Aggies swept Bakersfield (25-15, 25-17, 25-19) last Monday, beat Idaho (25-15, 25-18, 25-19) on Saturday and defeated Seattle U (24-26, 25-15, 25-14, 25-21) on Sunday ... Gwen Murphy had 10 blocks against the Roadrunners ... Against Idaho, Desiree Scott had a season-high 16 kills on a season-high hitting percentage to go along with seven blocks ... Against the Redhawks, Bradley Nash posted her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Taylor Livoti posted a double-double of 27 assists and 10 digs ... As a team, the Aggies lead the WAC in opponent hitting percentage (.151), rank second in blocks (2.43) and fourth in hitting percentage (.197) ... Scott ranks second in the WAC in hitting percentage (.356) and blocks (1.23), and ninth in points (3.41) ... Lauren Loerch ranks ninth in the WAC in points (3.34) and 10th in kills (2.80) ... The Aggies play at Chicago State on Thursday and at Kansas City on Saturday.

SEATTLE U REDHAWKS (6-14, 3-2 WAC)
The Redhawks defeated Grand Canyon (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19) and Texas-Pan American (28-26, 25-21, 18-25, 25-21) before falling at New Mexico State (26-24, 15-25, 14-25, 21-25) on Sunday ... Iris Ivanis posted a double-double of 17 kills and 11 digs at GCU, while Lani Beadle had a season-high 24 digs ... In the win at UTPA, Ivanis had 15 kills and 11 digs for her third double-double of the season, while Beadle finished with 22 digs ... Matea Mamic had her first career double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs against NM State, while Beadle had a match-high 18 digs ... Allison Farley ranks eighth in the WAC in hitting percentage (.260), while Kerry Lane is sixth in assists (8.63) and Ivanis is eighth in service aces (0.30) ... Beadle is ninth in the WAC in digs (3.03) ... The 3-2 WAC start is the best conference record after five matches for Seattle U since 2005, when it started 8-0 in the Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference ... The Redhawks host Idaho Friday in their only match this week.

TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN BRONCS (10-10, 0-4 WAC)
The Broncs went 0-3 last week, falling to Utah Valley (9-25, 11-25, 23-25), Idaho (20-25, 23-25, 23-25) and Seattle U (26-28, 21-25, 25-18, 21-25) ... Against the Wolverines, Nycole Masaki had 15 assists, while Nausheen Merchant posted 11 digs ... Haley Durham had a career-high 15 kills, while Kasey Sanchez posted her first double-double of the season and the second of career with 10 kills and 11 digs vs. Idaho ... Masaki also doubled up with 35 assists and 10 digs ... Against the Redhawks, Krysta Freitas posted her second double-double of the season with 12 kills and 12 digs, while Shanice Faison recorded a season-high 23 digs in her first start at libero ... The Broncs lead the WAC and rank 30th in the nation with 1.6 service aces per set ... Masaki, Macey Singleton and Freitas rank third (0.36), sixth (0.31) and seventh (0.31), respectively, in the WAC in service aces per set ... UTAH VALLEY WOLVERINES  (10-9, 4-1 WAC)
The Wolverines went 3-0 last week, defeating Texas-Pan American (25-9, 25-11, 25-23), Kansas City (20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 15-7) and Chicago State (25-13, 25-14, 26-24) ... Against UTPA, Lauren Stringham had a match-high 12 kills on .647 hitting, while McKenna Tait had a match-high 21 digs ... Kalani Norris had a career-high 22 kills and a career-best 18 digs vs. Kansas City for her second double-double of the season ... Against the Cougars, Norris had a team-high 13 kills, while Brookelyn Hall dished out 21 assists ... The Wolverines are above .500 for the first time on the season and have won eight of their last nine matches ... Tait leads the WAC in service aces (0.47) and ranks fifth in digs (3.90), while Macky Treanor is second in points (3.94) and third in kills (3.46) ... As a team, the Wolverines rank second in the conference in hitting percentage (.211) and third in blocks (2.24) and service aces (1.31) ...
