Utah Valley 114, Walla Walla 27
The Wolverines shot a school record 66.7 percent from the field a 114-27 blowout of Walla Walla Saturday at the PE Building. Utah Valley also tied the school record for assists with 32 in the win, which evened its record at 1-1 on the season.
Utah Valley also shot 65 percent from three-point range and 85 percent from the free throw line on the game. Walla Walla connected on just 21 percent from the floor, 14 percent from downtown and 33 percent from the charity stripe in the loss. The Wolverines won the rebounding battle 52-18 and forced 23 Walla Walla turnovers.
Katie Kuklok led all players with 23 points, including seven three-pointers, to go along with nine rebounds. Sam Loggins added 16 points, while Georgia Agnew had 13 and Tina Doughty had 11. Agnew and Doughty also dished out eight assists apiece.
Chicago State 74, Indiana Tech 51
The Cougars opened the season with a 74-51 win over Indiana Tech at the Jones Convocation Center Saturday.
Chicago State shot 39 percent from the field, 26 percent from beyond the arc and 63 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Warriors shot 30 percent from the floor, 16 percent from downtown and 64 percent from the charity stripe. Indiana Tech won the rebounding battle 48-42, but committed 25 turnovers.
Tierra Williams scored a game-high 23 points to go along with five steals, while Paris Williams added 18 points. Chanel Stewart-Wilson posted a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Jasmine Sanders tallied 12 points and eight assists.
Grand Canyon 92, Western State 35
The Antelopes opened their first Division I season with a 92-35 blowout of Western State at Grand Canyon Arena Saturday.
The Antelopes shot 49 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 52 percent from the free throw line on the game. Western State connected on 27 percent from the floor, 14 percent from downtown and 71 percent from the charity stripe. Grand Canyon out-rebounded the Mountaineers 50-34 and forced 29 Western State turnovers.
Judy Jones led all players with 20 points and five steals, while Johnna Brown posted a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards to go along with five steals. Deanna Daniels finished with 16 points and give steals, while Kaitlyn Petersen dished out five assists.
North Texas 77, Kansas City 70
The Kangaroos opened the season with a 77-70 road loss to North Texas at The Super Pit Saturday.
Kansas City out-shot (35 percent to 32 percent) and out-rebounded (51-48) the Mean Green, but committed 24 turnovers to North Texas' 12 in the loss.
Eilise O'Connor paced the 'Roos with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Kelsey Barnwell added 14 points, while Grace Mitchell grabbed 10 boards and Jordan Evans blocked three shots.
Oregon 131, Bakersfield 91
The Roadrunners opened the season with a 131-91 road loss to Oregon at Matthew Knight Arena Saturday.
Bakersfield shot 38 percent from the field, 14 percent from three-point range and 74 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Ducks connected on 43 percent from the floor, 48 percent from beyond the arc and 71 percent from the free throw line. Oregon also made a program and Pac-12 record 20 three-pointers.
Tyonna Outland led Bakersfield with 23 points, while Brittany Sims added 18 and Dajy Vines had 14. Batabe Zempare grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
