Idaho 67, Western Illinois 63

MOSCOW, Idaho –(UI Media Relations) Stephen Madison kicked off his senior season with a double-double en route to leading the University of Idaho to a 67-63 non-conference victory over Western Illinois before an enthusiastic crowd at Memorial Gym.

Madison was seven-of-11 from the field for 21 points and had 14 rebounds (one offensive and 13 defensive). Glen Dean added 15 points as the other double-figure scorer in the Vandals’ 2013-14 debut.

“I’m really proud of our guys,” coach Don Verlin said. “We fought like crazy. We kept fighting every possession.”

New Mexico State 70, Tennessee State 55

HONOLULU – (NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State men’s basketball team played well defensively and had plenty of great spurts offensively to pick up a 70-55 win over Tennessee State, Saturday, Nov. 9 in the Stan Sheriff Center. The Aggies are now 1-1 on the season and the Tigers fall to 0-2.

NM State was up by four at 54-50 with 7:34 left in the game before going on a 10-0 run to take a 64-50 lead with 3:36 on the clock. The Aggies really came together as a team during those moments and it was observable by everyone in the arena when junior DK Eldridge passed the ball to junior Daniel Mullings for a nice alley-hoop.

Chicago State 77, Urbana 52

CHICAGO –(CSU Media Relations) Chicago State limited Urbana (Ohio) to 27.7 percent shooting (13-of-47) on Saturday (Nov. 9) evening in the Cougars' 77-52 victory over the Blue Knights. The home opener win moves the Cougars to 1-1 while Urbana is now 0-1.

It was homecoming for Chicago State but also a special night for another reason. The Cougars received their 2013 Great West Conference Tournament Championship rings in a pregame ceremony. The championship banner was also unveiled.

The Cougars never trailed on Saturday, jumping out to leads of 9-0 and 29-10. It was a balanced attack with eight Cougars tallying two or more points in the initial half.

San Diego 70, Grand Canyon 59

San Diego, Calif.--(GCU Media Relations) The University of San Diego used 68 percent shooting in the first half to propel them to a 70-59 win over the Grand Canyon University men's basketball team tonight at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego, Calif.

The loss drops the Antelopes to 0-2 on the young season, while San Diego improved to 2-0.

A night after trailing by 12 at the half, the Antelopes put themselves in a similar hole, trailing by 13. Coming out of the break, the Toreros built a 17-point bulge, but it was then where the team once again showed its will to battle.

Killian Larson scored five points during a 9-2 run that brought the 'Lopes within 10. USD pushed the lead back up to 14, but once again the Antelopes rallied.
