Utah Valley 78, North Carolina A&T 71

OREM, Utah --(UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University saw five players reach double-figures as it fended off a resilient North Carolina A&T 78-71 Monday night at the UCCU Center.

Guard Holton Hunsaker led UVU (2-0) with 16 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Fellow senior Ben Aird recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Mitch Bruneeladded 14 points and five boards to lift the Wolverines to their first 2-0 start since the 2008-09 season.

Redshirt freshman Zach Nelson scored in double-digits for the second consecutive contest with 12 points and sophomore Hayes Garritychipped in 10 off the bench.

Bakersfield 97, UC Merced 54

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -(CSUB Media Relations) The Bakersfield Roadrunners, paced by five players in double figures and a 57-percent shooting performance from the field never trailed winning their home opener 97-54 over UC Merced Monday night at the Icardo Center.

Bakersfield was led by Matt Ratto (Sr., Ripon, Calif., Modesto CC) who came off the bench midway through the second half and scored 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range in just eight minutes of play as the Roadrunners never trailed the Bobcats en route to their first win of the season.

Houston 77, Texas-Pan American 65

EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball battled back from a 12-point deficit late in the first half to take the lead, but the University of Houston Cougars closed the game on an 18-6 run over the final nine minutes to win 77-65 on Monday at the UTPA Fieldhouse in front of a crowd of 1,432.

The Cougars (2-0) led 40-28 with 3:03 remaining in the first on a Brandon Morris layup. The lead was still at 11 with 12 seconds left after a pair of Danuel House free throws, but junior Christian Hildebrant made a three from NBA range just before time expired to kick-off a 15-2 run that ended with senior Justin Leathers sinking a pair of free throws to give the Broncs (0-2) a 50-48 lead at the 15:47 mark.

Creigton 96, Kansas City 70

Omaha, Neb.--(UMKC Media Relations) The UMKC men's basketball team held a two point lead more than half way through the opening period at Creighton on Monday, but All-American Doug McDermott led the Bluejays on a run to end the half on the way to a 96-70 victory.

McDermott led all scorers with 37 points in the contest.

New Mexico State 95, Hawai‘i 88

HONOLULU –(NMSU Media Relatiosn) Junior guard K.C. Ross-Miller hit 10-straight free throws in the last :37 seconds of the game and junior forward Remi Barry scored a career-high 18 points to give the New Mexico State men’s basketball team the boost it needed to defeat Hawai’i 95-88 in the final game of the Outrigger Hotels and Resort Rainbow Classic, Tuesday, Nov. 12 in the Stan Sheriff Center. NM State is now 2-1 on the year, as is Hawai’i.
Junior guard Daniel Mullings, who earned all-tournament team honors, scored a team-high 21 points against the Rainbow Warriors. The last time Mullings scored at least 20 points was on March 7, 2013 during a 78-60 win over Louisiana Tech. He and Ross-Miller combined for an 18-of-24 night at the free throw line.

“The ten free throws in a row K.C. [Ross-Miller] hit could be the difference in the game,” head coach Marvin Menzies said in a postgame interview. “I was really pleased with his performance at the line, especially with the way we started the tournament.”
