DENVER — Grand Canyon’s Illya Glazunov and Wyoming’s Derek Campbell have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for November 4-11.
Glazunov, a sophomore from Donetsk, Ukraine (MP Dragomanov National Pedagogic University), won all three events he competed in during a 124-81 victory over Air Force on Friday. He opened the meet with a win in 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.63, the third best time in the WAC this season. He then added another victory in the 100 free with a time of 44.91, again the third best mark in the WAC. Glaunov anchored the 400 free relay team that won in a time of 3:02.29, recording the second best conference time this year. His split of 44.29 was a season-best for Glazunov.
Campbell, a senior from Laramie, Wyo. (Laramie HS), had an outstanding weekend against Illinois-Chicago and Northwestern. On Saturday, he set a personal-best and pool record at Flames Natatorium on his way to a first place finish in the 3-meter springboard with a score of 379.65. His mark was the fourth-best in Wyoming history and is the best in the WAC this year. On Friday, he also won the 3-meter event with a then season-best tally of 328.05. He also finished second in the 1-meter event on both days.
