DENVER – Kansas City’s Courtney Frerichs qualified for the NCAA Championships on Friday, as six WAC teams competed in NCAA Regional meets.
Frerichs placed fourth in the Midwest Region, finishing with a time of 20:25 on the 6K course. She helped Kansas City place 19th as a team on the women’s side. Frerichs will move on to compete at the NCAA Championships, which take place on Saturday, November 23 in Terre Haute, Ind. The Kansas City men placed placed 19th as well, paced by Taylor Wardell in 30th. Chicago State had two men and two women race in the Midwest Region, not earning team scores.
Idaho’s Hannah Kiser earned All-Region honors after finishing in 16th place at the West Regional in Sacramento, Calif. Kiser ran a time of 20:04 on the 6K course. Her strong performance helped the Idaho women, the four-time reigning WAC Champions, to a 19th place finish, followed closely by Seattle U in 20th. The Seattle U men placed 25th and Idaho had three men compete, but did not earn a team score.
The Utah Valley men had the best finish for a WAC team, placing 13th in a very competitive Mountain Region. The Wolverine women placed 18th, led by Brooke Hodson-Davies 33rd-place finish. New Mexico State also ran in the Mountain Region, placing 17th on the men’s side and 19th on the women’s side.
All-Region honors are awarded to athletes of schools that finished in the top 25 individually at one of the nine regional sites.
