Texas-Pan American 80, Texas Lutheran 37
The Broncs used an 18-0 run during the first half to pull away and beat Texas Lutheran 80-37 Tuesday at the UTPA Fieldhouse. With the win, Texas-Pan American improves to 2-1 on the season. The Bulldogs fall to 1-2 on the year with the loss.
UTPA shot 36 percent from the field, 31 percent from three-point range and 68 percent from the free throw line on the game. Texas Lutheran connected on 19 percent from the field, 18 percent from downtown and 52 percent from the charity stripe on the game. The Broncs won the rebounding battle, 58-46 and forced 28 Bulldog turnovers.
KaeLynn Boyd led all players with 12 points, while Jasmine Thompson added 10 and Cherrell Price had nine. Cha'zaye Wright had a team-high eight rebounds, while Rickell Preston and Thompson grabbed seven boards each.
Grand Canyon 79, Western New Mexico 52
The Antelopes improved to 2-0 on the season with a 79-52 win over Western New Mexico at GCU Arena Tuesday. The Mustangs fall to 2-2 on the season with the loss.
Grand Canyon shot 51 percent from the field, 44 percent from three-point range and 70 percent from the free throw line on the game. WNMU connected on 32 percent from the floor, 13 percent from beyond the arc and 67 percent from the line. The Antelopes won the rebounding battle, 41-33.
Johnna Brown posted a double-double with team highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kaitlyn Petersen added 17 points and eight assists, while August Touchard finished with 10 points. Judy Jones pulled down nine boards, while Justine Johnson had a game-high five steals.
Washington 80, Seattle U 62
The Redhawks remained winless on the season with an 82-60 loss to Washington at Alaska Airlines Arena Tuesday. With the loss, Seattle U falls to 0-3 on the season. The Huskies move to 1-2 on the year with the victory.
The Redhawks shot 32 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range and 69 percent from the free throw line on the game. UW connected on 49 percent from the field, 36 percent from downtown and 61 percent from the charity stripe on the game. The Huskies out-rebounded Seattle U, 48-38.
Kacie Sowell posted a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Sylvia Shephard added 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Ashley Ward finished with 11 points, four assists, four boards and three steals in the loss.
