New Mexico State 88, Eastern New Mexico 56
The Aggies cruised to an 88-56 win over Eastern New Mexico Thursday at the Pan American Center. New Mexico State improves to 2-3 on the season with the victory.
The Aggies shot 43 percent from the field, 38 percent from three-point range and 59 percent from the free throw line on the game. Eastern New Mexico connected on 28 percent from the floor, 27 percent from downtown and 72 percent from the charity stripe. NM State dominated the boards, 57-37.
Elena Holguin led all players with 18 points, while Vanessa Garner tallied 17 points and six assists. September Offutt scored 11 points to go with eight rebounds, including seven on the offensive side of the ball.
Virginia Commonwealth 67, Texas-Pan American 57
Despite opening the second half on a 15-0 run, the Broncs fell 67-57 to Virginia Commonwealth at UTPA Fieldhouse Thursday. With the loss, Texas-Pan American falls to 2-2 on the season. The Rams improve to 3-1.
UTPA shot 32 percent from the field, 26 percent from three-point range and just 58 percent from the free throw line on the game. VCU connected on 34 percent from the floor, 25 percent from beyond the arc and 71 percent from the line. The Rams won the rebounding battle, 54-41.
KaeLynn Boyd led the Broncs with 14 points, while Brittany Bush added 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Shante' Goff had a team-high six assists.
Southern Utah 74, Utah Valley 63
The Wolverines fell 74-63 to Southern Utah at Centrum Arena Thursday. With the loss, Utah Valley falls to 1-3 on the year. The Thunderbirds improve to 3-1 on the season with the win.
The Wolverines shot 43 percent from the field, 43 percent from three-point range and 68 percent from the free throw line on the game. Southern Utah connected on 44 percent from the floor, 32 percent from downtown and 80 percent from the charity stripe. The Thunderbirds dominated the boards, 43-26.
Katie Kuklok led all players with 24 points, while Karlee Kartchner added 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds.
