Idaho 68, UC Irvine 63
The Vandals won their third-straight game Saturday, defeating UC Irvine 68-63 at Memorial Gym. With the win, Idaho improves to 3-1 on the season. The Anteaters drop to 3-2 on the year with the loss.
The Vandals shot 34 percent from the field, 32 percent from three-point range and 68 percent from the free throw line on the game. UCI connected on 33 percent from the floor, 23 percent from downtown and 65 percent from the charity stripe. Idaho edged the Anteaters on the boards, 49-46.
Stacey Barr led all players with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Christina Salvatore added 14 points and Alyssa Charlston posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards.
Grand Canyon 57, Bethune-Cookman 45
The Antelopes remained undefeated on the season with a 57-45 win over Bethune-Cookman at the North Texas Tournament Saturday. With the victory, Grand Canyon improves to 3-0 on the season. The Wildcats fall to 1-4.
The Antelopes shot 33 percent from the field, 20 percent from three-point range and 79 percent from the free throw line on the game. Bethune-Cookman connected on 33 percent from the floor, 23 percent from beyond the arc and 63 percent from the charity stripe. Grand Canyon edged the Wildcats on the boards, 36-35, and forced 27 Bethune-Cookman turnovers.
Deanna Daniels led Grand Canyon with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Johnna Brown posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards. Kaitlyn Petersen finished with 15 points.
UNLV 76, Bakersfield 74
Danielle Miller's three-pointer with 53 seconds to go gave UNLV a 76-74 victory over the Roadrunners Saturday at Cox Pavillion. With the loss, Bakersfield falls to 1-3 on the year, while the Rebels improve to 2-2.
With the Roadrunners leading 72-69 with 1:35 to play, Alana Cesarz hit a pair of free throws to bring UNLV to within one. The Rebels forced a 'Runner turnover as Bakersfield was bringing the ball up court, allowing Cesarz to score for a 73-72 lead. Melissa Sweat in her 'Runner debut returned the lead with a jumper at the 57-second mark.
After a CSUB timeout, UNLV moved the ball down, setting up the Miller go-ahead basket. The Lady Rebels got a stop against the 'Runners, forcing Bakersfield to foul. Cesarz missed both of her attempts from the charity stripe, giving CSUB a chance. The Roadrunners called timeout and worked the clock down to five seconds where Tyonna Outland missed a jumper that would have tied the score.
Dajy Vines scored a career-high 20 points to lead Bakersfield. Shaquita Smith and Sweat each added 12 for the 'Runners.
IUPUI 68, Chicago State 47
The Cougars were outscored 41-22 in the second half in a 68-47 loss to IUPUI at the Jones Convocation Center Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Chicago State drops to 1-4 on the year. The Jaguars improve to 4-1.
The Cougars shot 46 percent from the field, 46 percent from three-point range and 50 percent from the free throw line on the game. IUPUI connected on 43 percent from the floor, 26 percent from downtown and 65 percent from the line. The Jaguars out-rebounded Chicago State 37-26 and forced 28 Cougar turnovers.
Paris Williams paced Chicago State with 18 points, while Tierra Williams added 10 points. Layne Murphy grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
