DENVER – Bakersfield senior outside hitter Debora Araujo has been named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 18-24. This is the second WAC Player of the Week honor of the season and her career.
The Belo Horizonte, Brazil, native led the Roadrunners to a pair of wins last week, posting a pair of double-doubles. Araujo opened the week with 17 kills and 16 digs in a sweep of Grand Canyon. She followed it up with 14 kills on .550 hitting to go along with 12 digs at Texas-Pan American. For the week, Araujo averaged WAC-bests of 5.42 points and 5.17 kills to go along with 4.67 digs per set.
Other nominees included: Grand Canyon’s Shannon Dugan averaged 4.80 kills and 3.33 digs as the Antelopes went 2-2 on the week ... Alyssa Schultz of Idaho averaged 2.50 kills on .400 hitting, 1.75 blocks and 1.00 digs per set as the Vandals went 1-0 on the week ... New Mexico State’s Gwen Murphy averaged 3.0 kills on .467 hitting and 1.67 blocks per set as the Aggies went 1-0 on the week ... Haley Durham of Texas-Pan American averaged 3.33 kills, 1.00 digs and 1.0 blocks per set last week ... Utah Valley’s Lauren Stringham averaged 3.33 kills and 1.67 blocks per set.
