Grand Canyon University senior forward Kyle Ciliento has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men's Soccer Second Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today.
Ciliento became the school's leader in career goals with 56 after collecting a team-best six goals and 14 points this past season. He also recorded two assists for the Antelopes, who competed in their inaugural season as members of the Western Athletic Conference.
Ciliento, who is working towards his Master of Business Administration with a 3.94 GPA, scored both of GCU's goals in their 2-1 season opening win at Nebraska-Omaha, the first victory for the 'Lopes as part of Division I.
"This just adds to the successful career that Kyle has had in our program both on the field and off," said head coach Petar Draksin. "These type of awards are earned and he definitely earned this recognition. We congratulate Kyle on the results of his hard work."
Ciliento, who missed the 2011 and 2012 seasons due to injury, quickly cemented his spot among the best players to have played at GCU. He was a two-time First Team All-American during his freshman and sophomore seasons, while also garnering 2010 ESPN Academic All-America College Division Third Team honors for his work in the classroom. During that same season, he led the nation with 27 goals, 1.35 goals per game, and 3.0 points per game and ranked second with 60 points. He was named Pacific West Conference Player of the Year in consecutive years (2009-10) and picked up Freshman of the Year honors in 2009.
