DENVER — UNLV’s Dillon Virva and North Dakota’s Rick Eberle have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for November 18-24.
 
Virva, a sophomore from Nevada City, Calif. (Nevada Union HS), set a new school and WAC record in winning the 50-yard freestyle at the UNLV Invitational with a time of 19.37 seconds.  He won by 0.35 seconds in recording the best time in the WAC and second fastest time in the nation this season.  Virva placed third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.98, setting another WAC-best time this year.  He led off the 200 free relay and helped the Rebels to a first place finish with a time of 1:19.06, the fastest in the WAC and fifth fastest in the nation.  Virva was also part of the 400 free (2:55.06) and 200 medley (1:26.50) relays that set WAC bests this season.

Eberle, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo. (Colorado State), competed at the Missouri Invitational and posted three top-8 finishes.  Eberle was eighth on the 1-meter with a score of 239.85, fourth on the 3-meter with a score of 314.85 and fifth on the platform with a score of 262.25.  His 3-meter performance came after finishing eighth in the preliminaries.
 
Other swimmers nominated: Air Force sophomore Michael Barnosky; Bakersfield junior Mitchell Huxhold; Grand Canyon sophomore Iegor Lytvenok; North Dakota sophomore Colin MacQuarrie; and Wyoming junior Adam Kalms.
