DENVER--Four WAC men’s soccer players have been named to the Capitol One Academic All-District Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Air Force sophomore midfielder Luke Villamaria, Grand Canyon grad forward Kyle Ciliento, Kansas City junior defender Michael Oakley, and Seattle U sophomore Michael Roberts each earned first team honors.
Villamaria, from Temple, Texas, currently maintains a 3.79 grade-point average and is majoring in biology. He has appeared in 13 of AFA’s 16 games this season and notched the first point of his career with an assist on Oct. 18 against UMKC.
Ciliento made his return to the field after sitting out the past two seasons due to injury and is currently tied for the team-lead with four goals. The Business Administration graduate student, who sports a 3.94 grade point average in his Master's program, also has two assists on the season to give him a team-best 10 points. Ciliento needs just one more goal to tie for the most-career goals in GCU men's soccer history, as Manoel Coehlo owns the record at 55, doing so from 1997-99.
Oakley (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) posts a 3.65 GPA and has been named to numerous academic teams during his career, including Academic All-League, Academic Honor Roll, and Commissioner’s List. He also excels on the field as he was named first-team all-conference a year ago, and to the conference all-newcomer team as a freshman.
Roberts became the first Academic All-District honoree for men’s soccer at Seattle U since 2009 when Derek Rogalsky was named First Team, University Division, and the first ever honoree for the program since reclassifying back to Division I.
All honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot where first, second, and third team All-America honorees will be selected in November.
