UTAH VALLEY MEN REGIONALLY RANKED
The Utah Valley men’s cross country team are the lone Western Athletic Conference school that earned recognition after being ranked in the top 15 of the regional rankings by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Wolverines appear in the men’s Mountain Region rankings at No. 14.
WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
Utah Valley’s men and Idaho’s women ran to the 2013 WAC Cross Country team titles at Jefferson Park Golf Club on Nov. 2. Idaho freshman Nicholas Boersma claimed the men’s individual title as he covered the 8K championship course in a time of 25:26.70. Idaho senior Hannah Kiser won the women’s 5K championship with a time of 17:15.70.

NCAA REGIONALS
The 2013 Cross Country Regionals will be held at nine sites throughout the country on Friday, Nov. 15. WAC teams will be represented in four locations. The West Region will be held in Sacramento, Calif., (Sacramento State). The Mountain Region will be held in Ogden Utah, (Weber State), the South Central Regional (Baylor University) will take place in Waco, Texas, and the Midwest Region (Iowa State) will take place in Ames, Iowa.

Bakersfield Roadrunners
Bakersfield finished off its inaugural WAC Cross Country season with an eighth-place finish at the WAC Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2 ... freshman LaShya Morgan finished 43rd on the 6K course in a time of 20:38.10 to lead the ‘Runners ... junior Megan Thompson was 45th (20:57.80), sophomore Jorey Braughton (21:21.90) finished 48th, freshman Tori Blackmon placed 50th (22:02.90), and freshman Ariana Mariscal rounded out the scoring in 54th (22:57.80) ... sophomore Kaylee Moyer came in 55th (24:12.70) ... Bakersfield withdrew from the NCAA West Regionals and will not compete again this season.
Chicago State Cougars
Chicago State ran in its first Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship on Nov. 2 ... the men placed eighth and the women placed ninth ... junior DeShaunte Lewis was one of three Cougars on the men’s side to record their best times of the season ... Lewis finished in 21st with a personal best time of 26:38.20 ... junior David Prchal finished in 48th (30:56.60) ... freshman Charles Blackhawk was two spots behind Prchal with a 50th place finish (32:16.30) ... on the women’s side, Oslyn Melissa Collins finished in 40th with a time of 20:10.20 ... the Cougars are back in action again on Friday, running at the NIU Huskie Open in DeKalb, Ill. ... following that race, CSU will compete at the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Nov. 15 in Ames, Iowa.
Grand Canyon ‘Lopes
The Antelopes competed in their final meet of the 2013 season on Nov. 2, with both the men and women placing seventh at the WAC Cross Country Championships in Seattle, Wash. ... on the men’s side, junior Brandon Kocmoud was the top-placed finisher for the ‘Lopes, clocking in at 27:55.10 to finish 34th ... junior Jordan Beverly was just three seconds behind his teammate to claim 35th overall ... on the women’s side, the ‘Lopes women were led by Kelsi Klotter’s 33rd finish with a time of 19.44.30 ... Jelena Andjelkovic and Kelsi Beam came in 36th and 37th, and were separated by just three-tenths of a second, after clocking in at 19:55.40 and 19:55.70, respectively ... the Antelopes are not eligible for NCAA Championship competition due to the NCAA-mandated probation period that is part of the transition to Division I.
Idaho Vandals
The University of Idaho women’s Cross Country team made history on Nov. 2, claiming its fourth-straight WAC Championship ... the men placed second, five points out of first place ... senior Hannah Kiser won her second-straight Western Athletic Conference title and was voted WAC Cross Country Athlete of the Year of for the second year in a row ... Idaho’s Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Wayne Phipps was named the WAC Women’s Coach of the Year for the sixth time ... freshman Nicholas Boersma ran to a first-place finish in the men’s race and was named the 2013 WAC Freshman of the Year ... the Vandals swept the top three spots on the men’s side, as WAC Athlete of the Year Cody Helbling took second and Santos Vargas placed third ... the Vandals will look to continue their successful season at the NCAA West Regionals, which take place in Sacramento, Calif on Nov. 15.
Kansas City Kangaroos
The Kansas City cross country teams turned in a successful performance in what was the program’s inaugural trip to the Western Athletic Conference Championship on Nov. 2, with both the men and women placing third overall ... sophomore Courtney Frerichs punctuated an excellent 2013 campaign with a second place finish in the women’s 5K, finishing with a time of 17:35.70 ... Sayra Villela and Meg Doss crossed the finish line 16th and 17th respectively ... on the men’s side, junior Taylor Wardall continued his late season effectiveness, notching an eight place finish with a time of 25:50.90 ... freshman Bryce Miller crossed the finish line in 26:01.80 – good for 12th place ... Nathan Keown and James Barnett finished 18th and 19th, respectively ... next up for Kansas City is the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Ames, Iowa on Nov. 15
New Mexico State Aggies
The New Mexico State cross country team competed in the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Seattle, Wash., on Nov. 2, with the women placing fourth overall and the men finishing sixth ... the Aggies left Seattle with three all-WAC members, junior Hab Rubio for the men and juniors Diana Hawk and Megan McNally for the women ... Hawk finished seventh overall with a time of 18:24.40 in the 5K ... McNally finished 14th overall with a time of 18:53.50 ... on the men’s side, the Aggies were led by Rubio who finished 11th overall with a time of 25:57.30 in the 8K ... the Aggies have a week off from competition before traveling to Ogden, Utah for the NCAA Regionals on Nov. 15.
Seattle University Redhawks
The Seattle University women’s team finished in second place and the men’s team earned a fourth-place finish at the 2013 Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2 ... senior Lauren Hammerle earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 18:10.00 ... Hannah Mittelstaedt picked up an eighth-place finish in 18:25.60 and Sophie Curatilo finished in ninth place with a time of 18:27.60 ... Lila Rice earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors as well as Second Team All-WAC recognition after crossing the finish line first among the first-year competitors ... Nathan McLaughlin was the top Redhawk finisher in the men’s 8K race, finishing in 16th place overall with a time of 26:20.20 ... the Seattle University cross country team will head to Sacramento, Calif., for the NCAA West Regional meet on Nov. 15.
Texas-Pan American Broncs
The UTPA men’s and women’s cross country teams last competed at the WAC Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2, with the men placing fifth and the women grabbing sixth ... on the men’s side, senior Martin Casse posted a sixth place finish with a season-best time of 25:41.10 in the 8K, while senior Luis Serrano finished in 10th place with a time of 25:56.40 ... on the women’s side, Rebekah Rodridguez led the Broncs with a 26th place finish as she posted a time of 19:17.80 in the 5K ... senior Robin Galloso finished in 28th with a time of 19:22.40 ... the Broncs are back in action at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on November 15.
Utah Valley Wolverines
The Utah Valley University’s men’s cross country team claimed the title in its inaugural WAC season on Nov. 2 in Seattle, Wash. ... the women came in fifth ... Chris Brower and Jason Lynch, who came in fourth and fifth, respectively, led the men ... Brower finished the 8K in 25:37.9, with Lynch in fifth at 25:40.1, Josh Monsen in seventh (25:42.2) and Seth Gutzwiller ninth (25:53.9) ... the Utah Valley men had all five of its team-scorers finishing in the top 13 ... on the women’s side, Darian Sharp led the way for UVU in 11th with a 5K time of 18:41.5 ... UVU Head Coach Scott Houle won his 10th conference Coach of the Year award, after winning nine in five years in the Great West Conference ... UVU will now run for a shot at Nationals in the Mountain Region Championships on Nov. 15 in Ogden.
