Texas-Pan American 87, Schreiner 46
The Broncs opened the season with an 87-46 win over Schreiner at the UTPA Fieldhouse Friday.
Texas-Pan American shot 40 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 71 percent from the free throw line on the game, while Schreiner connected on 22 percent from the floor, 33 percent from beyond the arc and 69 percent from the charity stripe. The Broncs dominated the boards, 60-36.
Shawnte Goff led all players with 18 points, while Jasmine Thompson and Tonisha Walker added 12 points apiece. Brittany Bush grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and blocked three shots.
No. 25 Gonzaga 64, Idaho 56
The Vandals outscored No. 25 Gonzaga in the second half, but couldn't overcome a 12-point halftime deficit in a season-opening 64-56 loss Friday night at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
Idaho shot 27 percent from the field, 26 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line on the game. Gonzaga connected on 33 percent from the floor, 16 percent from beyond the arc and 59 percent from the charity stripe. Gonzaga won the rebounding battle, 53-48.
Alyssa Charlston led the Vandals with 15 points and nine rebounds. Christina Salvatore added 14 points, while Stacey Barr tallied 10 points and four assists. Ali Forde finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
Pepperdine 84, at Seattle U 73
The Redhawks opened the season with an 84-73 loss to Pepperdine at the Connolly Center Friday.
Seattle U shot 40 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and just 41 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Waves connected on a blazing 62 percent from the field, 13 percent from downtown and 56 percent from the charity stripe. Pepperdine also out-rebounded the Redhawks 46-36.
Kacie Sowell led Seattle U with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Ward, Sylvia Shephard and Alexis Montgomery added 15 points each, while Shephard also dished out five assists..
Nevada 79, Utah Valley 67
The Wolverines were outscored 42-30 in the second half en route to a season-opening loss to Nevada Friday at the UCCU Center.
Utah Valley shot 27 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point range and 74 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Wolf Pack connected on 44 percent from the floor, 27 percent from downrown and 92 percent from the free throw line. Nevada also out-rebounded the Wolverines 45-37.
Katie Kuklok led all players with 24 points, including six three-pointers, while
Katie Doughty added 22 points, 16 of which came at the charity stripe. Georgia Agnew dished out six assists, while Kyra Prause pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
