Drake 65, Bakersfield 57
FRESNO, Calif. -(CSUB Media Relations) Despite another attempt at a second-half comeback, the Bakersfield Roadrunners couldn’t manage the key baskets and the Drake Bulldogs had an answer as they held off CSUB 65-57 in the final game of the Fresno State Classic Sunday afternoon.
With the win Drake took the tournament title with a perfect 3-0 mark.
The Roadrunners struggled offensively in the first half converting on just 10-of-26 from the field with the starters combining for just seven points.
As has been the case recently, the ‘Runners put together a much better second half effort climbing back into the game after trailing by double digits. Drake led by 12 with 8:02 remaining after a five-minute scoring drought by Bakersfield. The ‘Runners then managed to pull back within three points on three occasions in the final four minutes but Drake had an answer each time using senior guard Richard Carter as their primary weapon as he finished the game with 18 points. Carter made a layup with 1:24 remaining and was fouled on the attempt and made the ensuing free throw to stretch the lead to six and help close out the win for Drake.
