DENVER — New Mexico State’s Terrin Seaver and Northern Arizona’s Gwen Smithberg have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, for December 2-8.
Seaver, a senior from Lake Geneva, Wis. (Elkhorn HS), swept both backstroke events during New Mexico State’s dual meet with Northern Arizona on Saturday. She won the 100 back with a time of 57.19 and the 200 back with a time of 2:03.75. Though the times weren’t season-bests for Seaver, both would have been in the WAC’s top-10 for the year. She also swam the leadoff leg of the Aggies’ winning 200 medley relay team (1:47.25).
Smithberg, a senior from Seattle, Wash. (Kennedy Catholic), opened the meet against New Mexico State on Saturday winning the 3-meter diving event with a score of 271.87, just over a point better than her teammate Chelsea Jackson and more than 30 points better than New Mexico State’s top diver. Smithberg also scored points for the Lumberjacks on the 1-meter board, placing fifth with a score of 230.17.
Other swimmers nominated: Northern Arizona senior Emma Lowther.
Other divers nominated: None.
