FORT WORTH, Texas--Bakersfield second baseman Oscar Sanay and Sacramento State pitcher Sutter McLoughlin have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) preseason All-America team. Sanay earned second team honors while McLoughlin was named to the third team.
Sanay is coming off a junior season in which he was named first team All-Conference and was the only Bakersfield player named to the All-WAC Tournament Team. An Academic All-Conference selection, Sanay was 1-of-5 players to reset the school record for most appearances in a season with 59.
He led Bakersfield in hitting for third consecutive season (.362) a year ago. He also led the team in slugging percentage (.487) and on-base percentage (.446). Sanay hit his first career home run at Fresno State (Apr. 23, 2013) and tied the school record with six triples...reset school record for most double plays turned in a season (39). Sanay was second on the squad in RBI’s (45), walks (25), and HBP (14) a year ago.
McLoughlin heads into his sophomore season after a stellar freshman campaign in which he earned Louisville Slugger and NCBWA Freshman All-American honors. He joined teammate Chris Lewis as the first freshmen in Sacramento State history to be named to the All-WAC first team in 2013.
He shattered the single-season Sacramento State record and led the WAC with 17 saves last season. He led all WAC relievers with five or more appearances with a 2.11 season ERA. He allowed only nine earned runs with 26 strikeouts and nine walks. He registered five shutouts in 2013 and ranked second in the WAC with 26 games finished. McLoughlin did not allow an earned run in 23 of his 28 outings. He recorded saves in 12 consectuve appearances from April 2 to May 10. He allowed only three extra-base hits in 2013.
Sanay and McLoughlin will open the 2014 season for their respective teams on Feb. 14.
