WAC Men's Basketball Recaps - Dec. 22

Cal State Northridge 79, Idaho 69

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –(UI Media Relations) The Idaho men’s basketball team overcame an 11-point first-half deficit to take the lead on two occasions in the second half, but CSU Northridge gained the advantage down the stretch en route to a 79-69 victory on Sunday evening.

“They out-toughed us, no question about it,” Idaho coach Don Verlin said. “They ended up outrebounding us by 14, and that’s a margin you just can’t overcome on the road. We had a number of opportunities around the rim that we just couldn’t finish. I didn’t think our guys paid enough attention to the details tonight.”

Idaho falls to 6-7 on the season with the loss, while Northridge improves to 7-5. The Vandals will get another stab at the Matadors this season, as Northridge makes a return trip to Moscow for a Feb. 18 contest.

Omaha 76, Seattle U 69

Omaha, Neb.-(SU Media Relations) Despite a career-high scoring performance by junior guard Isiah Umipig (Federal Way, Wash.), Seattle University was unable to overcome its own turnovers and Nebraska Omaha’s solid second-half shooting from both the field and the free throw line, as the Mavericks held off the Redhawks in men’s collegiate basketball action, 76-69, Sunday afternoon at Ralston Arena.

Umipig scored 35 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, including 6-of-11 from behind the three-point line, and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. It was his second game of the season with at least 30 points and broke his previous personal record of 34 points set at Cal State Fullerton against Redlands Nov. 11, 2011.
