Grand Canyon 72, LIU-Brooklyn 63
The Antelopes won their sixth-straight game, defeating LIU-Brooklyn 72-63 Saturday at Grand Canyon Arena. With the win, Grand Canyon improves to 11-2 on the season. LIU-Brooklyn drops to 1-9 on the year with the loss.
The Antelopes shot 48 percent from the field, 39 percent from three-point range and 100 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Blackbirds connected on 48 percent from the floor, 33 percent from downtown and 58 percent from the charity stripe. LIU-Brooklyn edged GCU on the boards, 32-30.
Deanna Daniels led the Lopes with 20 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, while also nabbing four steals. Kaitlyn Petersen also doubled up with 16 points and 10 assists to go along with six boards. Justine Johnson added 12 points and six assists.
Utah Valley 89, New Orleans 49
The Wolverines cruised to a 40-point victory Saturday, the largest margin of victory for Utah Valley over a Division I opponent in the program's NCAA Division I era (since 2003-04), with an 89-49 win over New Orleans. With the win, the Wolverines improve to 3-10 on the season. The Privateers fall to 0-11 on the year with the loss.
UVU shot 49 percent from the field, 42 percent from three-point range and 66 percent from the free throw line on the game. UNO connected on 26 percent from the floor, 24 percent from beyond the arc and 60 percent from the line. The Wolverines out-rebounded the Privateers 53-40.
Rhaiah Spooner-Knight paced Utah Valley with 20 points and nine rebounds. Katie Kuklok added 12 points, while Tina Doughty finished with 10. Georgia Agnew had five assists to go along with eight points.
Texas 87, Idaho 58
The Vandals fell 87-58 to Texas at the Erwin Center Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Idaho evens its record at 7-7 on the year. The Longhorns improve to 9-3 on the season with the win.
The Vandals shot 33 percent from the field, 24 percent from three-point range and 61 percent from the free throw line on the game. Texas connected on 45 percent from the floor, 32 percent from downtown and 68 percent from the charity stripe. The Longhorns dominated the boards, 50-35, and forced 21 Idaho turnovers.
Alyssa Charlston paced the Vandals with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Stacey Barr added 12 points.
UC Santa Barbara 78, Seattle U 75
The Redhawks led by as many as 19 points in the first half, but were outscored 44-26 in the second half en route to a 78-75 loss to UC Santa Barbara at the Thunderdome Saturday to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule. With the loss, Seattle U drops to 5-8 on the season. The Gauchos improve to 5-7 on the year with the win.
The Redhawks shot 48 percent from the field, 28 percent from three-point range and 60 percent from the free throw line on the game. UCSB connected on 48 percent from the floor, 44 percent from beyond the arc and 64 percent from the line on the game. Both teams grabbed 36 boards in the game.
Kacie Sowell led Seattle U with a team-high 23 points, while Sylvia Shephard added 16 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists, falling just shy of a triple-double. Ashley Ward added 11 points.
Northwestern State 73, New Mexico State 63
The Aggies dropped their sixth-straight game, falling 73-63 to Northwestern State at the UTSA Holiday Classic Saturday. With the loss, New Mexico State falls to 3-9 on the season. The Demons improve to 6-5 on the year with the win.
The Aggies shot 33 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point range and 56 percent from the free throw line on the game. Northwestern State connected on 41 percent from the floor, 29 percent from downtown and 66 percent from the charity stripe. NM State won the rebounding battle, 46-39, but committed 20 turnovers in the loss.
Danesia Williamson led the Aggies with 29 points, while Breanna Freeman and Tyler Ellis both grabbed double-digit rebounds, finishing with 13 and 12, respectively.
