DENVER – Idaho’s Artemiy Nikitin and Grand Canyon’s Alexandra Petrzalkova have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s Tennis Athletes of the Month, respectively, for the month of November.
Nikitin, a senior from Omsk, Russia (South Carolina State), went 2-1 in No. 1 singles play for the month at the Easley Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. He won his opening-round match over Grand Canyon’s Nicolas Moulin to reach the quarterfinals in the top singles flight before falling to Auburn’s Lukas Oller. He then beat Arizona’s Matt Dunn in consolation action.
Petrzalkova, a freshman from Bratislava, Slovakia (Gymnazium Metodova 2 Bratislava), went 3-0 in singles and won her flight at the Balloon Fest Tournament in Albuquerque, N.M. Petrzalkova defeated competitors from Northern Arizona, New Mexico and UTEP while claiming the title. She also teamed with Priscilla Annoual to win the doubles tournament in the Silver Bracket, capping a 6-0 weekend.
