Seattle U 74, Cal State Fullerton 65

FULLERTON, Calif. –(SU Media Relations) Thanks to its best field goal shooting night in four seasons, Seattle University swept its California weekend road trip as well as the season series over Cal State Fullerton, defeating the Titans 74-65 Saturday night in men’s collegiate basketball action at Titan Gym.

Isiah Umipig (Federal Way, Wash.) shot 6-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-5 from behind the three-point line, and 4-of-5 from the free throw line to lead the Redhawks with 20 points and four assists, while Deshaun Sunderhaus (Conyers, Ga.) used an 8-of-9 field goal shooting performance to finish with 17 points along with seven rebounds, and Jarell Flora (Bremerton, Wash.) added 15 points thanks in part to four first half three-pointers.

Seattle U scored the first 10 points of the game, the initial four coming from Jack Crook (Manchester, England) before back-to-back three-pointers by Umipig and Flora. The Titans went on a 7-2 run to cut their deficit in half, but the Redhawks extended the lead

Kansas City 88, Youngstown State 80

Kansas City, Mo. – (UMKC Media Relations)Kansas City men's basketball got 86 of its points from the starting lineup on Saturday in an 88-80 upset of Youngstown State, who came in ranked No. 21 in the Mid Major Top 25. Senior forward Nelson Kirksey had a career-high 24 points in the game, leading all five starters in double figures.

“That’s what we need from our starters. Those five guys are going to be the bulk of our scoring this season.” Head Coach Kareem Richardson said. “They are a very good team and their guard play is tremendous. (Kendrick) Perry can play anywhere in the country, he is a talent.”

Utah Valley 89, St. Katherine 37

OREM, Utah -(UVU Media Relations) Utah Valley University ran past St. Katherine on Saturday night, 89-37, behind a balanced offensive output and a defensive effort that limited the Firebirds to just 22.2 percent shooting.

Ben Aird led four players in double figures with 16 points with Hayes Garrity scoring 14, Zach Nelson 13 and Holton Hunsaker 11. Mitch Bruneel had a game-high 10 rebounds and chipped in eight points, Keawe Enos had nine and Brenden Evans finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Aird also blocked four shots and finished with seven boards on a night the Wolverines (3-5) out-rebounded the Firebirds 49-34. Hunsaker grabbed six rebounds and he and Enos each had five assists. UVU finished with 21 assists on 29 makes.

Chicago State 90, UW-Parkside 81

CHICAGO – (CSU Media Relations) Four Cougars finished in double-digits to lift Chicago State men's basketball to a 90-81 victory over UW-Parkside on Saturday (Dec. 7) at the Jones Convocation Center.

The Cougars were led by a career-high 19 points from senior Corey Gray (Houston, Texas/Hightower). He finished a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. Senior Nate Duhon (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) added a season-high 18 points, finishing 7-of-10 from the floor. Junior Clarke Rosenberg (Skokie, Ill./Evanston Township) also had 18 points while adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior Eddie Denard (Chicago, Ill./Foreman) was the fourth Cougar in double-digits with 11 points.

UTSA 72, Texas-Pan American 65

EDINBURG –(UTPA Media Relations) The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs men's basketball team fell to the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunners 72-65 on Saturday at the UTPA Fieldhouse in front of a crowd of 1,487.

Three Broncs (4-7) reached double-figures in scoring, led by graduate student Javorn Farrell, who scored 16 points with five rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal. Junior Shaquille Boga scored 11 points with a career-high tying seven assists. Sophomore Shaquille Hines scored 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Washington State 67, Idaho 66

MOSCOW, Idaho --(AP) DaVonte Lacy scored 23 points and D.J. Shelton added 10 points and 14 rebounds and hit two key free throws to help Washington State beat al Idaho 67-66 Saturday.

Steven Madison hit two free throws with 30 seconds remaining in the game to put the Idaho up by one, 66-65. Lacy drove the lane on the next possession but missed the layup. Shelton was fouled on the rebound with seven seconds on the clock and converted both.
Connor Hill missed an open three from the corner as time expired.
Royce Woolridge added 13 points as Washington State (4-4) recovered from a ten-point, second-half deficit.
Stephen Madison had 16 points and went 9-10 from the free throw line for Idaho (4-5). Hill added 15 points and Glenn Dean chipped in 14.

#15 Gonzaga 80, New Mexico State 68

SPOKANE, Wash. -(AP) Sam Dower Jr. scored 22 points, Gerard Coleman added 21 and No. 19 Gonzaga overcame a slow start to hold off New Mexico State 80-68 Saturday night.

Kevin Pangos added 15 points for Gonzaga (8-1), which was plagued by poor shooting in the first half and kept 11 points below its scoring average.
Daniel Mullings scored 17 points for New Mexico State (7-4), which lost its third straight game. Tshilidzi Nephawe added 13 points.
Gonzaga leads the nation in field goal shooting at 55.8 percent, but was cold at the start and couldn't put the Aggies away until the final minutes. They shot just 48 percent, but won the rebound battle 45-30. Gonzaga, which led by one point at halftime, shot 64 percent in the decisive second half. Przemek Karnowski had nine points and nine rebounds for the Zags.
