WAC TEAM-BY-TEAM NOTES

Idaho Vandals  
Idaho hosts three meets this week, starting on Friday with the 37th Annual Vandal Indoor ... the team hosts the Vandal Collegiate on Saturday and the Vandal Open on Sunday ... Friday's action will feature an indoor discus throw competition starting at 11 a.m. ... the main meet starts with field events at 5 p.m. (PT) and track events at 6 p.m. ... Saturday and Sunday will kick off at 9 a.m. at the Kibbie Dome ... Idaho welcomes teams from Washington State, Central Washington, Whitworth, Western Oregon, Warner Pacific, Saint Martin's, Linfield and Community Colleges of Spokane this week ... through three weeks of competition, Vandals lead the WAC in three events  (M-1st, 2nd 400m; W-1st 800m, mile).

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs
Dennis Richardson barely missed out on a school record and Niko Richey won the open 60m dash by three-thousandths of a second as the Louisiana Tech sprinters dominated in the final day of the Howie Ryan Invitational ... Richardson's time of 6.69 in the elite 60m finals was 0.01 shy of the school record time ... Kimberly Smith finished fifth in the elite 60m dash with a time of 7.49 after running 7.50 in the prelims ... Kim Francis continued to excel in the hurdles, winning the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.45 after matching her own personal record time of 8.39, which is also the 10th fastest time in school history ... Tech returns to action on Feb. 8-9 at Fayetteville, Ark.

New Mexico State Aggies
The New Mexico State University track and field team traveled to Albuquerque, N.M., for a second-straight week to compete in the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational, highlighted by three new all-time school records ... Jenna Banegas finished fourth overall in the 60m with a time of 7.72 and junior Alishia Perkins finished fifth overall with a time of 7.73 ...  freshman Brianna Cromartie continued her early season tear by finishing second overall with a time of 24.29 in the 200m setting a new all-time school record ... Samantha Thompson claimed a top five overall spot for the Aggies in the 800m when she finished fourth overall with a time of 2:18.44 ... The Aggies will again travel to Albuquerque next week for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Friday, Feb. 1.

Seattle University Redhawks
Four more school records, including the longest-standing standard entering the indoor season, were broken as the Seattle University track and field team continued competition at the UW Invitational ... Shaddye Melu broke a seven-year-old school record in the men's high jump, clearing 1.97 meters (6' 5.5") on his second try to raise the record by one-and-a-half inches ... Meeghan Bergmann finished second in her heat of the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.96 seconds ... Sophie Curatilo (Honolulu, Hawaii) finished eighth in her section of the women's one mile run with a time of 5:03.56 ... Seattle University returns to Dempsey Indoor in two weeks, with some competitors participating in the Husky Classic Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9.  


University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks  
UT Arlington men's and women's indoor track and field teams will continue their preparations by competing in Wichita State's Varsity Apartments Invitational this weekend ... teams scheduled to compete include: UT Arlington, Wichita State, Oklahoma, Sam Houston State, Missouri State, Nebraska-Omaha, Doane College and Iowa Central Community College ... The Varsity Apartments Invitational will take place Friday and Saturday in Wichita, Kan.

UTSA Roadrunners 
The Roadrunner men have picked up a total of 14 gold medals through the season's first four meets and currently sit atop the WAC standings in eight events ... senior All-Americans Richard Garrett Jr. (shot put/11th) and Keith Benford (high jump/t-12th) rank among the top 15 nationally in their respective events ... the UTSA have registered seven wins through the season's first four meets ... senior Katie Bragg (weight throw), junior April Benavidez (pole vault) and the distance medley relay of junior Alyssa Diaz, sophomore Stephanie Wangui, junior Nina Herrera and junior Samantha Fish lead the league standings ... the Roadrunners will have their final tune-up for the WAC Championships this weekend at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. 

Texas State Bobcats
Tim Young posted his season-best time of 6.820 seconds in the 60-meter dash as a photo finish separated the top three finishers ... Young came back to finish third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.11 seconds ... Anthony Johnson also had a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 49.60 seconds despite running on a flat 200-meter track ... Chelsea Stephen was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.62 seconds ... Texas State had three of the top six runners in the 800 meters as Kimberly Krtinich finished in third place with a time of 2:16.94 ... next up for the Bobcats on Saturday is the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas.

Utah State Aggies
Utah State's men and women's track and field teams return to Nampa, Idaho this weekend to compete at Boise State's Bronco Classic at Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center on Saturday, Feb. 2 ... this is the second of three trips to the Jacksons Indoor Track for the Aggies this season, as they competed at the Jacksons/New Balance Invitational on Jan. 25-26 and will return for the Boise State Team Challenge on Feb. 8-9 ... competing against USU from the NCAA Division I level will be Fresno State, Utah, Utah Valley and host Boise State ... the Aggie men enter this weekend ranked fourth in the Mountain Region behind while the Aggie women sit at No. 18 in the region.

WAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2013 WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships travel to Albuquerque, N.M. This year's championships will be hosted by the WAC and will take place at the Albuquerque Convention Center beginning Feb. 21 and running through Feb. 23. The Idaho men and Utah State women claimed the championships last year.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2013 Indoor Track & Field National Championships once again travels to Fayetteville, Ark. All events will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
