San Jose State 74, Seatte U 65
San Jose State handed Seattle U its second WAC loss, a 74-65 defeat Thursday on Walt McPherson Court. WIth the win, the Spartans improve to 9-12 on the season and 6-4 in the WAC. The Redhawks fall to 11-8 overall and 8-2 in WAC play.
SJSU shot 38 percent from the field, 25 percent from three-point range and 76 percent from the free throw line. Seattle U connected on just 29 percent from the floor, 17 percent from beyond the arc and 65 percent from the charity stripe. The Spartans dominated the boards, 57-45.
Riana Byrd had 19 points and 18 rebounds, while Ta'Rea Cunnigan added 19 points and Classye James had 13.
Daidra Brown had a career-high 24 points for Seattle U, while Kacie Sowell added 13.
Utah State 81, Idaho 50
Utah State posted its biggest margin of victory of the season, defeating Idaho 81-50 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Thursday. With the win, the Aggies improve to 11-10 overall and 8-2 in the WAC. The Vandals fall to 9-12 on the season and 6-4 in WAC play.
The 31-point win was the biggest margin of victory this season for the Aggies' whose previous high was 16 points in a win against Denver on Jan. 19.
Utah State shot 48 percent from the field, 38 percent from three-point range and 91 percent from the free throw line. Idaho connected on just 20 percent from the floor, 13 percent from downtown and 72 percent from the charity stripe. The Aggies won the rebounding battle, 45-42.
Jenna Johnson recorded her eighth double-double of the season, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Franny Vaaulu added 15 points, while Devyn Christensen scored 13.
Stacey Barr led the Vandals with 13 points.
Denver 53, UTSA 49
Denver opened the game on a 10-0 run and never trailed in a 53-49 victory against UTSA on Thursday night at Magness Arena. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 10-11 overall and 5-5 in the WAC. The Roadrunners drop to 11-10 on the season and 5-5 in the WAC.
Denver shot 43 percent from the floor and 65 percent from the free throw line, but was 0-for-5 from three-point range. UTSA connected on 36 percent from the field, 25 percent from beyond the arc and just 46 percent from the charity stripe. The Pioneers out-rebounded the Roadrunners, 40-29.
Emiko Smith led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Kailey Edwards with 11 points. Maiya Michel grabbed a game-high 12 boards.
Simone Young led the Roadrunnerswith 13 points.
Texas State 58, New Mexico State 49
Texas State snapped a three-game losing skid with a 58-49 road win over New Mexico State Thursday night at the Pan American Center. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 8-12 on the season and 2-8 in the WAC. The Aggies fall to 9-11 overall and 3-7 in WAC play.
Texas State shot 40 percent from the field, 27 percent from three-point range and 53 percent from the free throw line on the game. New Mexico State connected on 32 percent from the floor, 22 percent from downtown and 60 percent from the charity stripe. The Bobcats won the rebounding battle, 44-40.
Diamond Ford led the Bobcats with 21 points. Jasmine Baugus had her second career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, while Erin Peoples had 10 points and 13 boards.
Stefanie Gilbreath paced the Aggies with 22 points, while Camila Rosen grabbed 11 rebounds.
