WAC NOTES
CSU Bakersfield (7-7)
Jordan Reed and Michaela Paige both won two events as Washington State defeated CSU Bakersfield 172-116 in the regular season women's swimming finale ... Reed swept the 1m and 3m diving events marking her eighth and ninth diving event wins in 18 starts this season ... Paige won the 200 free (1:52.79) and the 500 free (5:09.47) ... it was Page's 12th and 13th wins of the year (in a total of 34 individual races) ... also earning victories for CSUB were Lauren Kaufman in the 50 free (:24.28) and Delise Batiza in the 1000 free (10:32.51) ... the Roadrunners finished the regular season with a 7-7 dual record, the most dual wins since CSUB transitioned to Division I.
Denver (5-5)
The University of Denver women's swimming and diving team fell to Boise State Friday afternoon as the Pioneers hosted their women's Senior Day with swimming events at El Pomar Natatorium ... Alex Suppan (Burlington, Vt.) posted a strong performance in her final meet at El Pomar Natatorium ... she finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.98 and took third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.06 ... Bridgette McNally won the 500 freestyle (5:04.15) ... Jaclyn Best took first in the 1000 freestyle (10:29.32) ... Dana Gau topped the Denver women with a score of 227.40 in the 3-meter dive, placing her 28th.
Idaho (4-5)
University of Idaho sophomore swimmer Rachel Millet continued her undefeated streak in individual races ... but it wasn't enough for the Vandals, who couldn't keep pace with Pac-12 Washington State in the annual Border Battle Swim Meet ... Millet won the 100 and 200 freestyle races and the 200 IM in the 156-106 loss to close out Idaho's regular season ... while the Vandals won five of the 12 individual events, the Cougars won both relays ... Idaho's other individual victories went to senior Kelsie Saxe, who won the 100 breaststroke, and freshman Jamie Sterbis, who won the 200 butterfly ... In the 200 fly, the Vandals picked up points with the runner-up effort of Meaghan McCloskey and the fourth-place finish of Kori Ungaretti.
New Mexico State (3-6)
NM State concluded the 2012-13 regular season on senior day with a 178.5-121.5 loss to in-state rival New Mexico, Feb. 2, in Las Cruces ... Jessica Legge swept the breaststroke events and broke the pool record in the 100 breast (1:03.92) ... she also won the 200 IM ... Dorottya Lennert led the Aggies in the 200 butterfly with her first-place finish ... she was runner-up in the 100 butterfly ... Terrin Seaver captured top honors in the 100 backstroke ... Tricia Kiss won the 200 backstroke ... Lauren Reifel paced the Aggies on the 3-meter boards scoring a second-place finish ... Audrey Ruiz claimed second on the 1-meter while qualifying for the NCAA Zone 'E' Diving Championships ... the Aggies set a new pool record in the 400 medley relay (3:49.03).
North Dakota (8-8-1)
The University of North Dakota women's swimming and diving team defeated host South Dakota State, 160.5- 137.5 in the final regular season meet Saturday ... Morgan Lynch hit the wall first in the 1000 freestyle (10:34.62) ... Kelsey Richels swam the top time in the 200 freestyle (1.55.77) ... Veronica Medon turned in a first-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:07.81) ... Rachael Waldbillig qualified for the NCAA Diving zone meet wither her 268.35 in the 1-meter diving ... the UND women swim in the WAC Championships Feb. 27 - Mar. 2.
Northern Arizona (5-5)
NAU recorded team season-best times in seven events and junior Stirling Smith won the 100 breaststroke as the Lumberjacks were defeated by Arizona State, 146-91 ... Smith touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.52 for NAU's lone win during the meet ... her time was more than a second better than the team's previous top time in the event this season while Smith also swam on NAU's top squad in the 200 medley relay that finished third at 1:47.07 ... Ellie Morrissey continued her superb rookie season finishing second in the 100 freestyle in 51.67, the fifth fastest time in the event in program history ... Kristy Ardavanis led NAU on the diving boards in finishing second on both 1-meter and 3-meter ... Next up for NAU is the WAC Championships.
Northern Colorado (1-7)
In the final regular season dual of the year, the Northern Colorado Swimming & Diving team defeated Nebraska-Omaha, 170-124 ... the Bears won 12 of the 16 events on the day and had several multiple race champions along the way ... Courtney Van Oost won the 100 back with her time of 59.59 and touched the wall first in the 200 back in 2:06.41 ... Melissa Tillman also swam a 2:11.7 in the 200 back for second place ... Gina Riggle was victorious in the 50 free, clocking a 24.07 and won the 100 fly after timing a 58.23 ... Sara Moldenhauer swept the two diving events ... the Aqua Bears now have the month of February off from competition to prepare for the WAC Championships.
San Jose State (9-1)
The San Jose State women's swimming and diving team recognized 11 seniors and celebrated their last home meet of the season with a 199-96 win against the Fresno State Bulldogs ... the Spartans had 13 first-place finishes and set two pool records ... Marisa DeWames, Amy Friedhoff and junior Darcie Anderson each won two races and senior diver Amy Kilby took both diving competitions ... in her two wins, DeWames broke The Aquatics Center records in the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 23.27 and 50.44, respectively ... the Spartans travel to San Antonio, Texas for the WAC Championships Feb. 27 - Mar. 2.
Seattle U (1-8)
The Redhawks lost to conference foe North Dakota (144-84) and host Air Force (156-69) Friday night in a double dual meet at the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Natatorium ... on Saturday the Redhawks improved but fell to Air Force (135-77) and North Dakota (123-96) ... Saturday Kevlyn Richards won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.56, over two seconds faster than her nearest competition ... Seattle University (1-8) will take the next month to prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Championships, held at the Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 27-March 2.
