DENVER - Idaho's Dmitry Perevoshchikov and San Jose State's Klaudia Boczova have been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively, for the week of Feb. 11-17.
Perevoshchikov, a sophomore from Izheusk, Russia, remains unbeaten in singles competition on the season after a pair of straight set wins at No. 1 singles. Perevoshchikov defeated Utah State's Sven Poslusny (6-3, 6-4) and Weber State's Jakub Gewert (6-1, 6-2). He partnered Ivan Krijanto in No. 3 doubles to defeat Utah States's Andrew Whiting and Matt Sweet (8-2). Later in the day he paired with Jose Bendeck in the No. 2 doubles position, winning 8-6 over Weber State's Sanjay Goswami and Todd Fought. The Vandals beat WAC foe Utah State, 7-0, to move to 1-0 in WAC play this season. Perevoshchikov is now 6-0 in singles play this season (No. 1/3-0; No. 2/3-0), helping the Vandals continue their undefeated spring season.
A sophomore from Bratislava, Slovakia, Boczova defeated No. 19 Aleksandra Josifoska in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) at No. 1 singles play, helping the Spartans to a 4-3 win over No. 58 UNLV. Boczova and Jessica Willett defeated Josifoska and Janine Erasmus, 8-5, in No. 2 doubles. In the San Jose State's loss to No. 35 Arizona State, Boczova and Willett scored the Spartan win on the day, defeating Joanna Smith and Ebony Panoho, 8-3.
