WAC NOTES

DENVER (1-2, 0-0)
The University of Denver men's tennis team defeated No. 68 Purdue 7-0 in their home opening match ... No. 47 Enej Bonin cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Purdue's Syzmon Tatarcyzk in No. 1 Singles ... Jens Vorkefeld defeated Mark Kovacs 6-3, 6-3, and Max Krammer beat Diego Acosta 6-2, 7-5 playing at No. 3 Singles ... Denver clinched the doubles point in two matches as the No. 3 match did not finish ... The Pioneers next match is Friday, Feb. 8 against Air Force. 

IDAHO (3-0, 0-0)
The Idaho men's tennis team wrapped up its weekend with a 6-1 win over DePaul ... the Vandals improve to 3-0 on the season with the victory ... daho swept through doubles play with an 8-3 win from Abid Akbar and Marius Cirstea, the nation's 46th ranked doubles pairing, at No. 1 ... Akbar won a three-setter at No. 1 singles and the Vandals got straight set wins from Perevoshchikov at No. 2, Cirstea at No. 3 and Ivan Krijanto at No. 6 ... Idaho improves to 8-1 in doubles this season ... 15-3 in singles ... Idaho returns to action on Feb. 9 with a pair of matches in Spokane, Wash. ... the Vandals will take on Whitworth at 9 a.m. and Gonzaga at 2 p.m.  

NEW MEXICO STATE (3-3, 0-0)
After going 1-2 on the road in Las Vegas, Nev., the Aggie men's tennis team closes out its road stretch with two games in San Antonio on Feb. 8 and 9 ... NMSU will face UT-Pan American at 10:00 a.m. MT on Saturday ... they will open WAC play with UTSA on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. MT. 

SEATTLE U (0-8, 0-0)
The freshmen class played the best tennis of the weekend for Seattle U ... the singles wins in the Portland State match came from three freshmen ... Will Topp won 21 games total in his two losses ... all but two of Topp's singles matches so far this season have involved extra tennis of some sort ... he is undefeated at 2-0 in third-set super tiebreakers and has played six extra games or set tiebreakers in his eight matches ... the squad's next five matches will be played in the greater Seattle area, with four of those home matches ... the sole away match will be on the campus of the University of Washington, four miles away from the Seattle U campus. 

UT ARLINGTON (0-1, 0-0)
UT Arlington opened its 2013 season with a 7-0 loss to No. 67 Texas Christian University Friday ... TCU took an early 1-0 lead over the Mavericks after the Horned Frogs swept UTA in doubles competition ... nationally ranked No.100 Arnau Dachs defeated Carlos Arbiza in a quick 6-3, 6-0 ... the Mavericks are back on the court Feb. 8 to take on Centenary College at 10 a.m. and Cameron at 2 p.m. at UTA Tennis Center.

UTSA (1-1, 0-0)
UTSA eventd its season record at 1-1 after coming back to defeat Texas-Pan American, 4-3 ... the Roadrunners trailed 2-0 in the contest and had to overcome a pair of one-set deficits at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to clinch the victory ... senior Martin Ayala clinched the match against the Broncs with a dramatic comeback victory at the top singles spot.

UTAH STATE (0-4, 0-0)
Utah State men's tennis concluded its weekend with a 4-0 loss to Northern Arizona here Sunday in a neutral court match ... the match which was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to inclement weather ... due to the postponement, the two teams agreed to play first to four points rather than playing all seven ... Utah State junior Fredrick Peterson lost to P. Schimmelbauer in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) at the No. 2 spot ... the Aggies dropped their Friday match with UNLV, 5-2 ... Sven Poslusny won in No. 1 singles 3-6, 6-3 1-0 (10-8) ... Utah State returns to action when it hosts Weber State on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
