DENVER - UTSA's Mike Medrano and Richard Garrett were named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of Jan. 28 - Feb. 3.

Medrano, a junior from Mission, Texas (Sharyland H.S.), raced to a runner-up performance in the mile on Saturday at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. The Mission native clocked a personal-record 4:11.89 (No. 3 on UTSA's all-time performance list) and trailed only Villanova's Dusty Solis (4:07.03) in the 63-man field. His mark was nearly a three-second improvement from his previous career best and it currently leads the WAC standings. He also anchored the Roadrunners' second-place distance medley relay that registered a WAC-leading and season-best time of 10:02.82 (third-fastest in program history) on Friday night.

Garrett, a senior from Garland, Texas (Naaman Forest H.S.), broke his two-year old program record in the shot put with a measurement of 62-11.75 (19.18m) on Friday at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. The three-time All-American added more than one foot and three inches to his previous personal best established at the 2011 Southland Conference Championships and he now stands in ninth place on the national leaderboard (second in the WAC).

Other track nominees included: Idaho junior Andrew Bloom, Texas State freshman Anthony Johnson, UT Arlington freshman Craig Lautenslager and Utah State sophomore Nic Bowens.

Other field nominees included: Idaho junior Kyle Rothwell, Texas State sophomore Darian Brown, UT Arlington senior Lionel Mungwari and Utah State sophomore Travis Johnson.
