Louisiana Tech 79, UTSA 73
Kelia Shelton broke the WAC single-game
scoring record with 45 points as Louisiana Tech picked up a road win
Thursday, defeating UTSA 79-73 at the Convocation Center. With the win,
the Lady Techsters move to 11-11 overall and 7-4 in the WAC. UTSA drops
to 12-11 on the season and 6-6 in WAC play.
The Lady Techsters
shot lights out, connecting on a season-high 56 percent from the field,
50 percent from three-point range and 83 percent from the free throw
line on the game. The Roadrunners shot 36 percent from the floor, 25
percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the charity stipe. UTSA
won the rebounding battle, 35-34.
Shelton added eight rebounds and two steals, while Lulu Perry finished with 19 points and Brittany Lewis had 10.
UTSA was led by Miki Turner with 16 points, Niaga Mitchell-Cole with 15 and Whitney York with 14.
Seattle U 63, Denver 53
Seattle U rebounded from losing two straight with a 63-53 win over Denver Thursday. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 12-9 overall and 9-3 in the WAC. The Pioneers fall to 11-12 on the season and 6-6 in WAC play.
Seattle U shot 47 percent from the field, 43 percent from three-point range and 56 percent from the free throw line. Denver connected on 33 percent from the floor, 18 percent from downtown and 65 percent from the charity stripe. DU edged the Redhawks on the boards, 38-37.
Sylvia Shephard led Seattle U with 15 points, while Daidra Brown added 12. Ashley Ward and Kacie Sowell scored 11 points apiece.
Emiko Smith and Maiya Michel led DU with 11 points each, while Michel grabbed 13 rebounds for a double-double.
Idaho 72, New Mexico State 53
Idaho cruised to its fifth win in its last six games, defeating New Mexico State 72-53 Thursday. With the win, the Vandals improve to 11-12 overall and 8-4 in WAC play. The Aggies fall to 9-13 on the season and 3-9 in the WAC.
Idaho shot 48 percent from the field, 42 percent from three-point range and 100 percent from the free throw line on the game. NM State connected on 30 percent from the floor, 15 percent from downtown and 100 percent from the charity stripe. The Vandals edged the Aggies on the boards, 42-40.
Ali Forde led Idaho with 20 points, while Alyssa Charlston added 14 and Christina Salvatore had 12.
Stefanie Gilbreath led all players with 21 points, while Danesia Williamson finished with 12 points for NM State.
UT Arlington 73, Texas State 72 (OT)
UT Arlington picked up its fourth win of the season, defeating Texas State 73-72 in overtime Thursday. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 4-17 on the season and 2-9 in WAC play. The Bobcats fall to 8-14 overall and 2-10 in the WAC.
UTA shot 46 percent from the field, 40 percent from beyond the arc and 54 percent from the free throw line. Texas State connected on 38 percent from the floor, 36 percent from downtown and 55 percent from the free throw line on the game. The Mavericks won the rebounding battle, 51-40.
Laila Suleiman led UTA with 15 points, while Desherra Nwanguma added 14 points. Jordan Holub, Kiara Parker and Chauntandra Willams each scored 10 points, while Parker grabbed 12 boards for a double-double.
Diamond Ford led all players with 26 points, while Ayriel Anderson added 12. Erin People finished with a game-high 13 rebounds.
