DENVER – UTSA’s Siera Sproul and UT Arlington’s Teri Lyles have been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for March 4-10. This is the first-ever honor for Sproul and the second honor in a row for Lyles.
Sproul, a junior outfielder from Liberty Hill, Texas, led the Roadrunners to a pair of wins over Houston Baptist last week. She hit .833 and recorded a 1.500 slugging percentage in the two games. In the first game, Sproul was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. In the second half of the doubleheader, she was 2-for-3 with a home run and three more RBI. The three hits and three RBI were both career highs.
Lyles, a senior from Keller, Texas, went 3-0 on the week with three complete games, including an eight-inning 3-2 win over Troy and a pair of run-rule victories. In 18.0 innings of work, she allowed just four earned runs while striking out 14. The right-hander is now 10-2 in the circle this season.
Other Hitter of the Week nominees included: Kristen Miles of Louisiana Tech hit .615 with a .688 on-base percentage ... New Mexico State’s Lacey Rother hit .333 with one RBI and three walks ... Lisa Maulden of Seattle U hit .364 with a .636 slugging percentage ... UT Arlington’s Rebecca Stokes hit .600 with one triple and three RBI.
Other Pitcher of the Week nominees included: Louisiana Tech’s Michelle Jones went 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 11 strikeouts ... Karysta Donisthorpe of New Mexico State went 1-1 with a 1.68 ERA and nine strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work ... Seattle U’s Richelle Ashburn had 14 strikeouts last week.
