DENVER – San Jose State’s Regan De Guzman has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for March 4-10.
For the second time this spring, De Guzman finished a tournament in second place, this time at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational played at the Almaden Golf and Country Club.
De Guzman shot an even-par 72 Tuesday in the final round of the tournament to finish at two-over, 218. She finished second to Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford who finished with a four-under, 212. The two players also finished 1-2 at the Peg Barnard Intercollegiate in February.
De Guzman started the day with a birdie on hole #8 and went to two-under with a birdie on hole #11. She made bogeys on #17 and #1 before finishing with six consecutive pars.
"Making a birdie on my first hole of the day gave me a lot of confidence to start the day," said De Guzman. "But I also knew that I could be too aggressive if I was not careful. I have been working on focusing on each shot and not getting ahead of myself. I have to be focused and centered on the course."
