SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(CSUB Media Relations) CSU Bakersfield opened its inaugural season in the Western Athletic Conference by defeated Sacramento State 4-2 Friday afternoon

Roadrunner starter Jeff McKenzie (Sr., El Dorado Hills, Calif., San Joaquin Delta College) gave up his first run in 20 innings when Nathana Lukas singled in Andrew Ayers in the bottom of the second. Bakersfield scored three times in the top of the third, twice on bases loaded walks.

New Mexico State 12, Texas State 6


LAS CRUCES, N.M.—(NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State University baseball team opened up conference play on Friday, March 22, by overtaking Texas State 12-6 in game one of a three game series.

NM State welcomed Texas State into the Western Athletic Conference by piling up 12 runs to go up 1-0 in conference play and 13-10 overall.  The Bobcats move to 0-1 in the WAC and 14-7 overall.

Dallas Baptist 13, San Jose State 3


SAN JOSE--(DBU Media Relations) Playing in their first conference game in the Division I history of the program, Dallas Baptist (12-10, 1-0) defeated Western Athletic Conference foe San Jose State, 13-3, with a sixteen hit attack and a three homerun performance to help Jake Johansen (3-2) to his third win of the season. Johansen scattered twelve hits over six innings and struck out three. Of the three runs scored by the Spartans, only one was earned as DBU made two errors behind the big righthander at Municipal Stadium in San Jose. Justin Wall helped the Patriots to the large margin of victory with four hits while Duncan McAlpine, Michael Miller and KJ Alexander all homered. McAlpine, Miller and Alexander all finished with three RBI.

UTSA 9, UT Arlington 2


SAN ANTONIO, Texas –(UTA Media Relations) The series opener between UT Arlington and UTSA figured to be a pitchers' duel, and that's how it looked for most of Friday night at Roadrunner Field.

The two old rivals new to the Western Athletic Conference season could only scratch a run each across the plate through six innings, but the Roadrunners broke the deadlock in the seventh on their way to a 9-2 victory.

"Very disappointing way to start conference," UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas said. "We got beat in every aspect. We have to get better."
