Seattle U 7, Dallas Baptist 2


Dallas, Texas - (SU Media Relations) In a reverse of the first game of the series, it was Seattle University posting the early offense as the Redhawks jumped out to an early lead on their way to a 7-2 victory over the Dallas Baptist Patriots Friday afternoon in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game at Horner Ballpark.

After both teams were retired in order in the first inning, Sean Narby (Auburn, Wash.) led off the second inning with an infield single, Ryan Somers (Sammamish, Wash.) drew a walk, and Brian Olson (Black Diamond, Wash.) singled through the left side of the infield to load the bases with nobody out. With one out, Zach Aaker (Ravensdale, Wash.) drove in Narby with a sacrifice fly, and Nick Latta (Tacoma, Wash.) followed with a three-run home run to left field, his first homer of the season, to give the Redhawks a 4-0 lead.

Texas State 1, Louisiana Tech 0


SAN MARCOS, Texas – (Texas State Media Relations) Texas State only needed one run to put away Louisiana Tech Friday night, and senior stalwarts Andrew Stumph and Morgan Mickan teamed up to make it happen. Sophomore pitcher Taylor Black gave the Bobcats the opportunity with 7.2 innings of scoreless pitching. Closer Hunter Lemke came in for his fifth save of the season.
 
In the sixth inning, Mickan sent a base knock to shallow centerfield, and Garrett Mattlage followed with a hit to left field. After a fly out, Stumph stood at the plate with runners at first and second and two outs. Unshaken, Stumph hit the ball just over the third baseman's head, and the speedy Mickan made it home for the 1-0 lead.

UT Arlington 8, San Jose State 7


ARLINGTON, Texas – (UTA Media Relations) The UT Arlington Mavericks batted around in the first inning and held on in Friday night's 8-7 Western Athletic Conference victory over San Jose State at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Mavericks improved to 18-15 overall and 7-3 in the WAC, which leads the league. The Spartans dropped to 11-23 and 5-5 after the first ever meeting with UT Arlington. With the victory, UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas tied former coach Jeff Curtis for the second-most career wins in program history with 166.

New Mexico State 5, Sacramento State 4


LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NMSU Media Relations) Senior Tanner Rust hit a walk-off single in the bottom of ninth to boost the New Mexico State baseball team (19-15, 5-5 WAC) to a 5-4 win over Sacramento State (19-15, 5-5 WAC) at Presley Askew Field, Friday, April 12.

The Aggies had a 4-3 heading into the ninth and Sacramento State tied it up after a batter got on base by being hit by a pitch, advancing to second on a stolen base and reaching third on a wild pitch.  The Hornet runner scored on a single through the left side taking the game to 4-4.

CSU Bakersfield 6, UTSA 3


BAKERSFIELD, Calif.— (CSUB Media Relations) Dylan Christensen (Sr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College) and Mylz Jones (Fr., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) both went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s to lead CSU Bakersfield (22-13, 7-3 WAC) past UTSA (19-14, 4-5 WAC) 6-3 Friday night.

With the score tied at one in the fifth The momentum of the game swung in the fifth inning. In the top of the inning, UTSA advanced runners to first and second with Daniel Rockett, Division I’s leading hitter, coming to bat. Jeff McKenzie (Sr., El Dorado Hills, Calif., San Joaquin Delta College), the WAC’s leader in wins and ERA, struck him out to end the inning.
