WAC NOTES

DENVER (15-3, 8-0)
The University of Denver women’s tennis team is ranked No. 59 in the latest ITA poll ... the Pioneers defeated Utah State 6-1 on Saturday and New Mexico State 7-0 on Sunday to win the WACregular season title with an 8-0 record ... the wins also put the Pioneers at 15-3 overall ... the Pioneers battle No. 53 Utah on Friday, April 19 in their final regular season match.

IDAHO (11-11, 4-4)
The Vandals won two out of three WAC matches during the week to get to 11-11 for the season and 4-4 in WAC play ... Idaho’s only loss on the week came to No. 66 San Jose State, 4-0.

LOUISIANA TECH (14-4, 7-1)
LA Tech improved to 14-4 on the season with two shutout wins over non-conference opponents the first at Southern Miss., the second at home against Alcorn State ... LA Tech ran its winning streak to eight games and has won 13 of its last 14 matches ... LA Tech did not drop a single set this weekend in singles ... the freshman tandem of Joanna Nalborska and Alexandra Starkova finished the regular season undefeated  in doubles with a 12-0 mark ... Nalborska and Manoela Chiacchio extended their singles winning streaks to nine games.

NEW MEXICO STATE (6-15, 2-7)
The New Mexico State women’s tennis team fell in the final home match of the season on Sunday, 7-0, to No. 57 Denver ... the Aggies finish the regular season 6-15 before heading into the WAC Championships in late April ... Ginet Pinro lost in a heartbreaker on Senior Day ...  she ook her No. 1 singles match to three sets (7-5, 6-7, 11-9) before surrendering the point ... the next five Aggies were downed in consecutive sets, with juniors Annemieke Witte and Ros-Polly Nguyen falling at the middle courts 6-3, 6-1, and 6-4, 6-1, respectively ... after finishing the final weekend of the regular season with a split weekend, NM State heads to the WAC Championships hosted by Denver on April 25-28.

SAN JOSE STATE (16-5, 8-1)
The No. 66 San Jose State women’s tennis team concluded their regular season after defeating the University of Idaho, 4-0 ... the Spartans clinched the win against the Vandals without going into doubles match play, after they won four of the six singles matches ... in singles No. 47 Klaudia Boczova, Sabastiani Leon Chao, Chau Truong, and Erica Medlin each posted a win for the Spartans ... Boczova defeated Victoria Lozano of Idaho in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, improving her singles season record to 12-3 ... the Spartans travel to Denver, Colo., Thursday, April 25 through Saturday, April 27 to compete in the WAC Championships.

SEATTLE U (6-16, 0-9)
The Redhawks earned their sixth win of the season, beating cross-state rival Eastern Washington 4-3 in Cheney, Wash. ... Kristen James clinched the match with a three-set victory in No. 6 singles ... Lindsey Newman leads the team in singles play, tallying an 11-11 record individually during the dual season ... two doubles pairs have 10-8 dual records as doubles partners in 2013 ... both Sarah Lucas and Lindsey Newman have gone 10-8, as have Corinne Wurden and Kristen James ... most of Lucas/Newman’s wins have come at No. 2 doubles, while a majority of Wurden/James’ wins have come in the third doubles spot ... the Redhawks will play just their second home match of the season this week, hosting Washington State Friday, April 19 ... the Redhawks lost their only other home match of the season to Eastern Washington February 23rd.

TEXAS STATE (8-9, 4-5)
The Texas State women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision in their final Western Athletic Conference battle against Idaho in a match that was played inside the Lewis & Clark Tennis Complex on Sunday ... the Bobcats began the day capturing the team doubles point with a pair of victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches ... Melissa Hadad and Mariana Perez teamed to defeat Costance Alexander and Belen Barcenilla by the score of 8-4 on the No. 2 court ... in No. 3 match, Berenice Van den Bergh and Katy Collins defeated Beatriz and Alejandra Lozano by a the score of 9-8 after winning the tiebreaker ... Texas State also posted a pair of victories in singles matches as Melissa Hadad won the No. 2 match and Mariana Perez won the No. 5 match ... the loss drops Texas State’s record to 8-9 overall this season and 4-5 against WAC opponents ... the Bobcats return home to close out the regular season against McMurry on Friday, April 19.

UT ARLINGTON (7-12, 6-3)
The UT Arlington women’s tennis feel 7-0 to the No. 26 Tulsa Golden Hurricanes ... the Mavericks drop to 6-13 overall, but remain at 6-3 in the Western Athletic Conference ... Tulsa took an early lead winning all three doubles matches, 8-0, 8-3, 8-2, to head into singles play with a 1-0 lead over the Mavericks ... the Mavs’ match against Memphis was canceled.

UTSA (7-12, 6-2)
UTSA split a pair of conference matches last week in Moscow, Idaho ... the Roadrunners lost to No. 66 San Jose State, 4-1, last Friday, but bounced back to shout out Seattle U, 4-0, a day later ... sophomore Irene Gandara Gonzalez netted two singles victories to pace UTSA.

UTAH STATE (5-12, 1-6)
Utah State women’s tennis wrapped up a tough weekend with a 6-1 loss to Western Athletic Conference foe Denver ... the Aggies put up a tough fight in doubles competition, but Denver came out ahead each time ... McKenzie Davis and Kallie Sperry fell to Sophia Bergner and Steffi Rath, 8-2, at the first doubles position ... Davis suffered her first individual loss of the weekend at the No. 1 singles position, falling to Bergner in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) ... with the loss, the Aggies fall to 5-12 overall and 1-6 in league play ... the team returns home next week to close out the regular season hosting Idaho on Saturday, April 20 at 10 a.m.
