UT Arlington 3, CSU Bakersfield 2


ARLINGTON, Texas – (UTA Media Relations) Matt Shortall smacked a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth to lift UT Arlington to a 3-2 Western Athletic Conference win over CSU Bakersfield at Clay Gould Ballpark.

UT Arlington (16-13) remained in first place in the WAC, improving to 6-2 in the league. The Roadrunners (20-11, 5-3) and Mavericks have split the first two games of the series, which ends Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

San Jose State 7, Louisiana Tech 1


San Jose, Calif. – (SJSU Media Relations) San Jose State got clutch hits from the middle of the order, and took advantage of Louisiana Tech’s 13 stranded base runners in a 7-1 Western Athletic Conference victory on Saturday at Municipal Stadium.

Matt Carroll with a 3-for-5 day at the plate has now hit safely in 13 of the last 15 games and has a team-leading .360 batting average. His 2-RBI double with two down in the eighth inning gave San Jose State a 7-1 lead needing just three more outs to end the game.

Sacramento State 7, Texas State 5


SACRAMENTO, Calif. — (SAC Media Relations) Chris Lewis went 4-for-4 and Justin Higley hit a three-run home run as Sacramento State clinched the series against Texas State with a 7-5 victory on Saturday at John Smith Field.

The Hornets defeated the Bobcats for the second consecutive day and now sit at 17-14 overall and 4-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. Texas State fell to 12-18 overall and 5-3 in league games.

UTSA 8, Seattle U 4


BELLEVUE, Wash. — (UTSA Media Relations) UTSA scored in five different innings and handed Seattle an 8-4 loss on Saturday at Bannerwood Park.

The Roadrunners (18-13, 4-4 WAC) never trailed in the second game of the set.

The Redhawks (10-20, 2-6 WAC), who committed four errors in the contest, scored three times on back-to-back home runs in the ninth, but they fell four runs short in their rally.

New Mexico State 7, Dallas Baptist 5


LAS CRUCES, N.M. – (NMSU Media Relations) The New Mexico State baseball team clinches a three-game Western Athletic Conference series after defeating Dallas Baptist 7-5 at Presley Askew Field, Saturday, April 6.  The win moves NM State to 18-14 on the year and 4-4 in league play while DBU falls to 16-15 overall and 4-4 in the WAC.

The Aggies started the game off on fire offensively posting five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first.  Senior Parker Hipp and senior Bobby Lecount tallied RBI doubles before junior Michael Paulson and senior Kyle Phillips followed with a home run each.
