DENVER – University of Denver freshman Henry Craig, was named Intercollegiate Tennis Associate (ITA) Mountain Region Rookie of the Year, officials announced Wednesday.
Craig helped contribute to a historic season for the Pioneers, as they claimed the WAC Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Denver traveled to Gainesville, Fla., to battle No. 1 seeded and No 15 in the country, Florida. The Pioneers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to upset the Gators on their home court, 4-3. The Pioneers bowed out of the tournament against No. 18 California.
Craig finished the season with a 15-10 singles record, including an 8-2 record at the No. 4 singles slot. The freshman went undefeated in WAC singles play and carried a four-match win streak into the WAC Championship against Idaho. The freshman also posted a 12-11 overall doubles record.
