INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –(UTSA Media Relations) UTSA learned on Monday morning that it will be the No. 4 seed in the Corvallis Regional, which will be played from May 31-June 3 at Goss Stadium in Corvallis, Ore.
The Roadrunners (35-23), who earned the Western Athletic Conference’s automatic bid with Sunday’s 11-4 victory over Dallas Baptist, will face No. 3 national seed Oregon State (45-10) on Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) in the regional opener, which can be seen on ESPN3.com.
The Beavers finished 24-6 in conference play to win the Pac-12 by two games over rival Oregon to earn the league’s automatic bid. This will be the fourth time (2005-06 and 2011) that Oregon State has hosted a regional and the two-time national champions are 9-0 all-time when hosting.
Texas A&M (32-27) earned the regional’s No. 2 seed and it will face third-seeded UC Santa Barbara (34-23) in the weekend’s other opening matchup.
The Aggies went 13-16 to finish sixth in the Southeastern Conference’s West Division, while the Gauchos won their final six series of the season and finished second in the Big West with a 17-10 conference mark.
Oregon State topped UTSA in the only meeting between the two squads, 10-7, in 10 innings back on Feb. 28, 2011, at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio. Meanwhile, Texas A&M holds a 21-9 edge in the all-time series against the Birds, including an 11-4 win on April 2 in College Station. UTSA and UCSB have never met.
The winner of the Corvallis Regional will move on to face the winner of the Manhattan Regional, which features host Kansas State (41-17), Arkansas (37-20), Bryant (44-16-1) and Wichita State (39-26).
