UTSA 3, Texas State 2SAN ANTONIO — (UTSA Media Relations) UTSA scored all its runs in the fifth and sixth innings and the Roadrunners held on for a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against I-35 rival Texas State on Friday night at the Bird Bath.
The Roadrunners (25-20, 9-9 WAC) faced a 1-0 deficit in the fifth before stringing together three hits and scoring twice to take a one-run lead.
A frame later, John Welborn drove in Mike Warren, who reached on a throwing error to start the sixth, to give the Birds a 3-1 advantage.

The 6-0 lefty scattered three hits as he struck out five while only walking one. McKenzie only faced four over the minimum and allowed only one runner to reach second (on a wild pitch in the fourth). The Bulldogs managed to bring the tying run up in the bottom of the ninth when Tyler Qualls singled to open the inning. McKenzie got the next batter, Taylor Terrasas to ground into a 4-6-3 double play and ended the game when Tyler Ervine grounded out to the third.

The Hornets raised their record to 28-18 overall and 11-8 in the Western Athletic Conference. The win was the team's fourth in a row and sixth in the last seven. Seattle dropped to 18-27 and 7-11.
Leitao threw eight innings, scattering four hits with two walks and four strikeouts to improve to 7-2 on the season. The sophomore has won his last five starts and lowered his overall season ERA to 2.57. Brandon Creel tossed a scoreless ninth.
